My Ride: not an E46
Both.

Actually I'm now considering dumping my E46 and buying something brand new, cheap, and economical like a *gasp* Hyundai or a Civic... or even an Accord or a Altima or Maxima. I'm a little hesitant because of the image it will set for me lol. I either have to save up for a used, prblematic E90 or an E60, or live on welfare and bundle up at night to afford a new E90 or a newer E60.

I have loved the way these cars look since they came out, and in high school these were the cars I lusted after, so that is always a plus I suppose.
actually, same here... when i first bought my bmw, it wasnt about the status at all. but the perceived status it gives me is ridiculous that sometimes i cant handle it lol... especially in the cheap ass neighborhood i live in with so many jealous people.

and now there are people here that are like "omg how come ur not driving ur bmw anymore?? u cant go from a bmw to a vw!!!" when i actually had the vw first lol... it makes me think, damn do i need to have a bmw for u guys to accept me socially? screw u

I bought my 325XI because I wanted good gas mileage and I didn't want to give up 4WD. I chuckle at the thought that BMW's are high performance cars. The handling is exceptional, but they're slow.

Nuff said, I thought it was a good price. Why not? I was tired of walking.

I buy BMWs because they are simply the best cars. They are comfortable, they handle well, they have features most other cars get 10 years later etc etc. Sure, they require constant care, and newer BMWs are electrical nightmares, but you know what? I'd much rather drive my e46 with two dozen things waiting for me to fix than a new Camry or what have you.

The fact that my 5000 dollar car looks like I might have just paid 20 grand for it, is just a bonus. I'll take the status symbol.

THis engine will last longer than my brand new 2011 Prius, that's why you buy a Bimmer, plus the fact you feel like a part of the car when you drive it, like Iron Man! The Prius is more like driving a HE Washing Machine, rumbles and loud and doesn't fit perfectly, but it saves a bunch of water (money)!

$8400 car for status? lolz.
I never had a BMW so I decided to try one out. bored with Japanese cars.
besides I have a sweet spot for big gaps between front wheels and front doors. hate some of the cars with tiny gaps and huge overhang.

it's all performance. Benz is all status. They're interior and durability (after the 90s) has always been inferior next to BMW.

both. Bmw is a performance-minded luxury brand.

If i bought a Lotus or Mitsubishi it would be all about performance. If i bought a Mercedes or Lexus it would be about luxury.

BMWs has the best of both worlds. Although a lot of people see BMWs as snobby luxury cars. Not performance cars. Which is a little sad.

Bought it for the precision engineering , and performance with a bit of luxury..

If I wanted all lux, I would get a Mercedes, if I wanted all performance then well I would prob get a a BMW

I got bit by the BMW bug when in late 1986, the very first M3 was introduced. I wanted one so bad back then I would have traded a kidney for one, and ever since then, every M3 that has hit the street has been a fave of mine. I can't wait to see the final turbo M3.

I don't really care about the status. But I also know that there are much better performing cars out there.

The reason I like BMW is because they seem to strike the ideal balance between performance and comfort.

I liked the way the car looked. Then I did some research and found that they are easy to work on.
