Our black E46 coupe was totaled today...I have to part it out

My girlfriend was driving and was rear ended at a stop light by another girl who says she "spaced out"... texting and driving is what I think she meant.

Anyways, It's a 2000 323ci with only 101k miles. We were going to actually keep that car awhile longer and sell my Fox Mustang to buy a newer car. I'll need all the money I can get with parting this thing out because I'm sure her insurance won't give her more than $4k for it.

I'll post pictures when able. If anyone has any requests please feel free to post them and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for looking.

I am really sorry to see that. I drive the same car--almost--a jet black 330ci, 2001, so seeing your car is almost like seeing mine. My seat is worn, but it is gray....your interior looks nice.

If the lower suspension and subframes aren't messed up, I'd be interested in those. I just posted a list of what I'm looking for over here:

Thanks!

Depends on the state, but if you are in an accident and "total" your car (which, depending on the state can mean it would cost between 2/3-98% of its actual value to repair it), *and* the car is over a certain age (depends on state, usually around 8 years because that's how some arbitrary automobile amortization schedule once worked), your insurance company will pay you out the fair value *and* you are allowed the option to retain possession of the car, even though the title of the car has already been exchanged by the Insurance company for a salvage title.

I used to work in the insurance industry and see weird stuff like this from time to time and in the licensing exams. It rarely happens because most people don't have a car over 8 years or so that they actually want back.

I'm not saying it applies in this situation, I have no idea what the insurance laws & regulations are in the state of Georgia, nor what anyone's individual insurance company may stipulate.

Just an FYI that may come in handy some day . . .just google up your state's salvage regulations (should be on your DMV website) and then ask your insurance agent if they would comply with this if it happened to you.
