Where can I score the software? Do I need to get this from a dealer? Freeware?

My 2 cents..i have a high end aftermarket alarm that I would like to install when I get then time, but this would be great for the mean time. In my last set up I installed the siren inside the car for two reasons. A thief will get in the car to steal radio or what ever they are after. So it is really loud inside in hopes that it will be too annoying and thief will leave. False alarms in middle of night will not annoy neighbors as it is quite outside of car. Also I have never seen anyone come running to chase away a car thief breaking in to someone else's car.

Thanks for write up and in advance for answer on software.

If you'd like more info on the software, PM me. Without the tilt & interior motion sensor, there is little room for false alarms. This would only activate if the doors, hood, or trunk were opened.

It's amazing to me that a non M E46 is such a beautiful car but the E46 M has never done much for me.

you could also easily wire a cheap shock sensor to the hood switch

The point of you changing up your alarm was to make it more louder/annoying?

or do you believe the unlock/lock is a better sounding alarm? sounds very loud in your garage.

It wasn't changed, I added it. Outdoors it sounds like every other alarm, maybe a bit quieter.

are the cheaper ones bootleg? since the bmw-scanner site says it is $600
the $30 OBD cable i got from ebay worked fine, the software/ computer settings just takes some time to install (vmware+DIS, etc. etc)

In this picture, you have nothing in there. In my 02 330XI it has some sort of small lines going into the side. Any idea what those are? And why I got them and you dont?

If I'm not mistaken those are A/C or ABS lines. You have AWD, which requires a front differential, different axles, etc, so your setup is not the same.
The concept is the same however, just find a secure place to mount the siren elsewhere. You may need lengthier wire.

I've done everything by this thread (and others) up to the point where you find the actual connector, but for the life of me I couldn't find it. I've been looking with a flashlight for a good hour, but besides some wires that go through mentioned area, I couldn't find anything. Is there any, even remote chance that I could have missed that connector?

As I've said, my car doesn't have an alarm, but it also doesn't have, for example, that plastic thing in the headliner where you enclose motion sensor. That leads me to beleive that European e46s (without alarm option) weren't even prewired for an alarm (I couldn't imagine wiring going through the headliner, without any opening that a connector or two can "exit" it.) Or am I just finding an excuse for not being able to find siren connector under the hood?

Oh, by the way, I don't even have a hood switch nor clown nose on a rearview mirror.
