I've been trying to recreate this and get it on video.
this happened to me and hasnt stopped. now my car wont unlock via key fob either. the codes say central locking short circuit. this only happened after i followed this thread and did as you did step by step.

Which fuses? Wiper, central locking, and anti theft? Just a fuse fixed it. If the fuse were bad wouldn't it stop working completely??? Will try this. Thanks

Don't do this mod it's too ghetto and if you're like me you'll follow everything step for step and mess your central locking system up. Get OEM..

I have the factory alarm, I wish it was louder the few times it's gone off...fortunately no issues during that.

Anyone have an easy way to add a major siren in the drug bin with the factory alarm? I'd also like to place a couple pain generators inside the cabin, but that is a minor need.

Shouldn't be hard to invent what you request. Get an alarm that is loudest you can find, keeping in mind the current requirements don't exceed the OE.
Then tap into the two siren wires and bring them over to the drug bin.

In this world with pain generators, probably get sued for hearing loss damage and lose the case. Pay for robber's kid's college fund!

I haven't had been able to recreate the issue ever since I posted about it last year.

Its worth mentioning that I also redid the wiring by properly soldering all connections, and shrink wrapping them. That's probably the only "ghetto" part of this mod I could think of.

Check your connections and wrap your wires.

I actually did this. Used a clifford 516 I think. I actually took the step of wiring in a relay activated off the factory alarm wires. That way I had two sirens. Never really had the alarm go off, but it was good for the lock/unlock as I could never hear the damn stock one. Terrible location for the alarm behind the firewall. my 36 and my 53 both have it way out in the open and are much louder.

I also coded the alarm with NCS to use the intervallton setting so it had a more distinct sound.

Loudness comment duly noted.
However, I like the factory location of the alarm. Keeps it out of the way cluttering the engine compartment, but more importantly keeps it in a hard to get to place where thieves might pop the hood and quickly rip out the alarm. (that is the way they work) They won't quickly get to the alarm behind all those layers.

This is really good. I will do this as well. I have a question though... Didn't you need to power it? Is it that factory harness that gives it the power?

Nice thread, and well done.

FWIW, it would appear that your cabin air filter is installed upside down? The tabs on the side are supposed to face down, AFAIK.

Why is this thread still in general. Btw I would not recommend the ghetto mod. I tried using another alarm from another car and the voltages were different and may have needed a resistor.. idk anyway it shorted out my central locking relay and now I have to manually unlock my doors until I send it to the gm5 guy.

No, the amperage draw was different, your siren was DOA, or you screwed up your wiring.
This is as "ghetto" as anyone installing a siren or piezo, except it actually serves a purpose and is functional.

I didnít think that this needed a disclaimer, but here it is: use common sense.
If the siren you want to retrofit has a relay, or if it has a fuse rated higher than the OE fuse, or youíre holding a horn in your hands and didnít know any better, stop what youíre doing.

This thread and idea itself is old. Iíve since retrofitted the OEM alarm since the scrapyard wanted $40 for the parts.

also, you can always add in aftermarket sensors of all types for cheap. you just need to be able to type into the closes wire that allows you to send the panic signal.
