URGENT: Mirror module location 04 325ci coupe

Hey guys, does anyone know if this is located behind the door trim? Ive pulled the door trim out and most of one side of the sound deadening, and still cannot find the mirror module.

Now im sitting here scratching my head. Any help would be great as this is a little urgent now.

ok I just did some resrearch to found out my car actually does not have any mirror modules in the doors as the mirrors are operated via the LIN bus from the GM5/General module. before I wasted 2 hours pulling the door trims out, I thought that even though my mirrors operated via a LIN bus, I would still have mirror modules. I'm not about to give up on fixing this because the only other thing that I think could be causing this issue is a faulty GM5 and i don't even wanna imagine how much it would cost to replace this.

I'm going to pull out and passenger door to have another look at the ribbon connector although i don't think it's damaged, since controlling the driver's mirror also controls the passgener mirror in a perpendicular direction to the driver's.

I had this happen on one of my mirror swap adventures, basically I got lazy and ended up with your problem by using mirror motors from one side of the car (eg. left hand side motor) in both mirrors.

Had to go through the process again to change it to a right side mirror motor

I'd love to know as well, as mine are acting up too. Ordered two parts and they are NOT located in the car.. I've checked the driver's side door, removed the driver's seat and looked under it, taken out the glove box and have removed the kick panel under the steering wheel. The only thing I can think of is that it's located within the memory seat module, or like infini said, it's part of the GM5. If that's the case, I'll be selling the car and looking for a newer one.

oops I missed your message last night. Wouldn't have known the answer myself. Did look through TIS just now but coundn't find any reference to the mirror module in the door. Makes sense then
So did you replace the passenger mirror or the mirror motor at any stage then?
Let me know if you want to check the GM5 the GT1/INPA ? Not sure what it can or cant check but worth a try if you dont manage to get to the bottom of this.

no I've never moved/replaced any mirrors or mirror motors.

This all happened after I disconnected the battery to install a strut brace months ago.
Yeah can I come down to try a GT1 scan when you're available? whenever you're free is fine, not in a big hurry.

I'm waiting on a replacement mirror switch, so I'll replace that to see if it fixes the problem.

By the way, I got your Plasti-Dip Can so I'll pass that to you next time i see you.

Yea but no progress,

My car has no mirror module since its an 04 model. The mirrors are controlled through the LIN bus from the GM5 and memory module.

In discussions with Fgin, i most likely need to obtain the coding from amother car to program back into mine.

I have a 2004 330ci vert. Watching your thread. My passenger mirror is dead. No power at all. Drivers side fine. I've removed the door panels as well, but can't seem to locate the mirror memory's too.

Refer to pages 68 & 69....
http://www.bmwtech.ru/pdf/e46/ST034/...20Internet.pdf

Regarding TIS, not sure if this relevant. A search of the noted part number on realoem show that the module was discontinued in 09/2002......

Would love to have passenger mirror functional.

Yeah, I've got nothing. Right now though, it's 29 degrees outside, so.. I kinda don't want to worry about it for a few months, haha.

Hm.. in reading that, passenger memory mirror module? Maybe that's in the passenger door? I picked up some door panel trim removal tools yesterday, maybe this weekend I can mess around with it some. Good find on that PDF. Hopefully though, it works for the facelift coupes -- the Bentley manual covers pre-facelift coupes, I've found..

Good luck. Let us know what you find. It seems that there are no mirror modules in the doors post 2002 production? I used a wooden kitchen spatula to remove door clips. Worked fine.. Starting to think that perhaps its a broken mirror motor itself, but need confirmation of memory module placement - if indeed there are mirror memory modules at all (with post 2002 models). I don't have Bentley manual - relying on web.

Update: I've determined why no power to passenger mirror. I removed both the door trim panel and the mirror itself. I discovered that the flexible circuit has shorted out between the rubber plug at the door, and the body of the mirror. Apparently effective October 2003, BMW changed the wiring harness to the mirror from a traditional "wire" to a flexible circuit (mine is a three wire supply). Clearly, this very thin material has been pressed so firmly against the metal housing at factory, that the ribbon shape has been embossed on the foam gasket and you can see exactly where the short connected with the edge of the metal housing. I've investigated to confirm that the flexible circuit is not repairable: mirror must be replaced.

Nice! Glad you found the problem of your mirrors!

Unfortunately, u know my ribbon wires are functional, as my passenger mirror was working but only responding to the opposite direction when controllong the drivers mirror. I accidently lost the coding for both mirrors somehow when attemptin to reprogram them.

Once i receive my GT1/TIS etc. software i will investigate further.

Hm, that's really interesting. Unfortunately, I think my problem is similar to infini, as my passenger side mirror will move, just.. sporadically. This is something I'm going to check though, as that wire does look pretty frail. Nice to know BMW didn't cut any corners on these cars..

From previous searching, I don't think your problem is the same as mine.

Mine does not move sporadically, it moves horizontal if i control the driver's mirror vertically and vice versa. It does not respond at all when the passenger mirror is selected from the switch.

I have found many other users with the same problem as you dauble2k5, when searching on this forum. IIRC, most of these people found the issue to be the mirror motor.

I called BMW dealerships to find price of replacement part 51167153134. I live in Canada, and local dealer is $498.00 + 13% tax. Same thing across the boarder is $321.95 us$ + state tax. Always more money up here.....
