My Ride: 2005 BMW E46 320i
Unhappy MkIV navigation problems on 05' e46 320i - Rubbish radio reception

Hi Guys,

I've been tearing my hair out for weeks now trying to solve this problem, and still have not been able to come right. Had my gearbox serviced a few weeks back and the mechanic obviously disconnected the battery for quite sometime which meant my radio lost its settings. Now once i'd reprogrammed the stations I noticed that my radio reception is pretty awful! Like as i drive around it loses and gains reception depending on what area i'm in. Now just to clarify, it was fault less before this incident, i would get strong signal even in the basement of my work, but now it is super patchy!

If you switch on the RDS option under the "INFO" menu it just makes it worse. Today I did discover the "Service menu" which you access by switching your radio off and then as soon as you have turned it on you press and hold in the select button for about 8 seconds. Now in this menu I have options to set the speed volume (GAL) etc, etc.

But the 1 option that I think I need to change will not let me change it! It is the AF (auto frequency) function, which is set to RDS=OFF... Even though i've tried setting RDS on through the INFO menu on the normal mode, which seems to make no difference. In the service bullentin it says on the service menu, on the AF screen, "press the INFO button and then select RDS on/off" but you press the info button and try any other key and nothing happens And phoned the stealers and they are like, "well we'll have to plug it into the machine to diagnose the problem, which will cost you R 650... ($80)... It is just a setting! Or so i think it is... Besides, not sure the "diagnosis" machine will even be able to tell them what the problem is...

If anyone can help i'd be super grateful!
