Thats how mine used to be. I lubed the hell out of the tracks with spray on lithium grease and it worked for a good while until the grease dried up and the track busted.

Ah, Kingwood, I've got a buddy that I work with that just bought a home out there. My question was if anyone knew how to get the 1st gear to disengage from the transmission. I bought it used and when I installed it, it seems to be stuck in first gear and will not release for the life of me. The guy I bought it from was from Dallas and he swore up and down that it was working before he shipped it to me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and am leaning toward it moving into gear during shipping. Wondering if I could remove a detant easily or what.

When it move in 4 inch increments, did u have to release the button and then click it again for it to work? (in another 4 inch increment..)

I will sell the cassette to anyone interested. Shoot me an offer. I can remove the motor and glass.

Hmmm..... That seems odd. Is it in the car or are you trying to shift it before installation?

It's not something I remember coming across before. Are you getting enough leverage on it while trying to shift it?

Well the trans is in the car now but even when it was out I tried to shift it through gears but it wouldnt budge where-as the original that was on the car could be shifted through the gears just fine on and off the car. Now that its on the car the gear lever is in a neutral position, can be moved side to side, but not able to select any gates, like there is a wall front and back. When I engage the clutch, the car moves forward and behaves as if its pre-engaged into 1st gear. Ive tried rocking the wheels forward and back, burnouts, smooth accel and hard accel, and nothing changes. Might just take the diff out of this one and swap it into the original. I cant wait to see how fun that will be too since I cant find any description on how to go about that either.

Sorry for the late reply, it never came through on my email and just noticed it in my SPAM box. Yes, mine opened in like 4" increments and creaking to a stop at some points. But, after I lubed it, all was well. Now keep in mind that you will have to work the grease in and keep moving the glass back and forth until it opens and closes in one fluid motion.

Worked out a deal and purchased a used cassette. Should be here by the weekend so Im clearing my schedule to tackle this mess. I will update how everything went.

Cool. Looking forward to the report. I couldn't get to the headliner this past weekend and this weekend I'm in Galveston for a 10k and spending the weekend. Perhaps the following weekend I'll drop it.
