E36 318is - supercharger?

Afternoon all,

First off, I am well aware this is an E46 forum, but maybe someone out there has some knowledge about this.

I am picking up a 1997 E36 318is in the next month or two. It has 137,000km/s, factory LSD, 5speed manual & custom extractors/full exhaust.

Now, I have an SC12 supercharger from an old toyota corolla. The supercharger came off the motor at around 150,000kms.

Does anyone know how much work/what kind of fabrication would be involved in fitting said supercharger to the 318is?

The car has been dynoed at 126rwhp. I know with the 318is motors you can't do a whole let to get a reasonable amount of extra power under a relatively small budget, hence why I am looking at supercharging to gain an extra 50-70hp.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jace.

I highly doubt you can make a corolla SC work on BMW, but Downing/Atlanta makes SC systems for that car.

I have read about the Downing/Atlanta SC systems, but they seem to be very expensive.

One of my friends is an engineer so he will be able to do fit the SC.

If it isn't possible to fit the Corolla SC to the 318is, I may look at the down the turbocharger avenue.

"Instead of spending the money on an E46 supercharger, why not buy an M3?"

This argument is endless. Unless you have an HPF M3.

Bimmer App made this happen. Don't be jealous.

noticed your from perth, maybe go see BM Techniks. You would be better of getting some sort of kit than fabricating something.
they actually have a 318is e36 there thats supercharged & has won various awards @ auto salon, just sitting around.. i think it's for sale too

Forget it mate, the car is just not worth the trouble. Power output will be not much more, it won't add value and because the car is old and the engine and gearbox isn't built for it, it will eventual break stuff. Plus there isn't really a market or a group that has the same thing, you would be on your own and a custom job so if you have trouble, most people won't/can't help. Save your cash and buy an M3 or a 330Ci or something better. That engine has NO potential. Or...take out the crap engine, sell it and do an LS1/LS2 swap. It will be a bit redneck but you'll have a hell of alot of fun and a unique car.
