Unhappy !! you got to be kidding...clutch problem...

hey guys,
sorry ive never really made much of an intro, just been a lurker mostly. anyway, i just recently got a 2001 330Ci silver w/ everything but nav...and i absoultely love it. after i got the car, i noticed that sometimes shifting at higher rpms, it made a small sqeek sound but i didnt make much of it, figured it was a loose belt maybe. today, im merging on the freeway, and at about 6k in 2nd (i wasnt flooring it or speedshifting) i try to get into 3rd and i hit the gate, try again, the gate. then i try to cluch and the pedal is STIFF. the first inch is limp and then it gets REAL stiff and the car will NOT go into gear. im guessing the throwout bearing or fork gave out. anyone have any experience with this situation? god i hope that damned 100k warrenty i bought seperate will come to use for this, cuz this isnt clutch wear and tear, its BROKEN.

do a thorough search on the clutch, theres been a lot of discussion on it and the warranty coverage issue. i think some people were able to get it covered and someone even posted a picture of the contract where it stated the clutch was covered. Search around and thoroughly read all the fine print on the back of your contract and maybe you can find it.

OK guys, heres the latest. they pretty much told me that even tho i bought the car only 3 weeks/1300 miles ago, im SOL. i dont think ive heard the words wear and tear used more often in my entire life. i guess this is what i get for buying a used car from a non original bmw dealer. anyway, im hoping to god that this is a hydraulic problem, altho the fact that the cluch is also slipping makes me wonder. how easy is it to jam the to bearing or pplate? one other thing, that night was the first night i had the DSC off when driving the car, does that have anything to do with it you think? i wish there were pics of the slave/fork/to bearing so that i could see how the e46 works, anyone got any? thanks!

this day really sucks,
=(

ps if im to be replacing this clutch anyway, is it worth spending exactly 2x as much and get the spec stage 1?

that sucks, BUT, how many miles are on your car? Is this a BMW dealership your dealing w/ and is the car still w/in its 36k mile maintanence warranty? If so, here is the thread i was talking about, its got a picture of the contract where it states the clutch is covered:

have you been able to replicate the problem for the dealer? It may not be a clutch problem. Do you have the extended BMW warranty?

its best to find an independent shop that works on german cars. it'll be alot cheaper. but i just had this problem! not even a month ago my advice is to STOP driving it NOW . it cost me a brand new flywheel and thoughs are not cheap. you just need a new clutch most likely. possibly a new flywheel if its not to late.

OP, make sure you see my friend. his name is Bjorn Smeds and he's owner/master tech @ valencia european. he's probably right down the street from you. He's honest as they come, certified as they come, and cheap as they come. And he's a BMW enthusiast too. tell him i sent you! (this is of course if you need a mech.)

he does my alignments and anything else i'm too lazy to do!
