Drive line vibration - and then it got worse

first post is a beauty - here goes
2002 330i sport 5 speed - 62K - had a slight growl over the summer - almost just too much engine noise. After 300 miles on track, a poor idle fixed by cleaning the ICV, then a rattle at idle that turned out to be the bracket from the gearbox to the exhaust - then just a little too much vibration in the shifter and steering

Decided to replace the bracket and install new tranny mounts - now there is a bigger vibration in the shifter and in the seat - clutch in - clutch out - moving or stationary - especially over 1800 and around 3000 rpm - with an exhaust note that almost sounds like small detonations - power is still great - idles like a champ - NO CODES - the quest begins

None of this has worked: removed exhaust bracket, stock tranny mounts, new flywheel, clutch, guibo, motor mounts, water pump, pulley, belt tensioner, idlers, belts.

Looked over the rest of the driveline and exhaust mounts but found them serviceable. Since the new clutch went in we have removed the belts but still we vibrate. Pulled the spark plugs and found some oil outside #4 but clean plugs. Tomorrow will bring a valve cover gasket and a harmonic balancer. Stumped. Thoughts?

Ok. Add valve cover gasket, plugs, and harmonic balancer to the list. The head mechanic thought we had made progress in the afternoon after he put things back together. But after sitting a couple hours, we found the same deal. I gave her 15 miles of excercise and left her outside to check a cold start in the morning.

Did you run it until it vibrates, remove both drive belts and rev it up (can't run the engine long without a water pump) to see if the vibrations is still there?

So it's not a driveline vibration, but an engine vibration?

Cold start was normal. Swapped out the ICV before work and sadly have the same vibration. Engine or drive line? The motor sounds and feels smooth as we rev it while touching the top of the motor. There are no codes and power it still good up to 6000. The shifter and seat of the pants is where you can pick it up. Going to try mrshelleys experiment this morning.

Ran sans drive belts. Same bad vibrations. Perhaps less severe but she was up on stands. Obviously not loaded and driven.
