BMW Flashlight - LED Conversion! (Complete, with pics!)

Hey guys,

Well it's been a journey. This took...way to long to complete - however, I like lights, and just felt this was kinda cool.

Anyway I started out cracking open the case to see what I was in for...

I've never done anything like this before, so it was definitely mind boggling how I was going to do it. Never used a dremel in my life, but figured to do what I wanted i'd have quite abit of work ahead of me. My goal was to put 3 "4chip" oznium LED's inplace of the 1 single halogen one.

I knew i'd need a better battery, also rechargeable. Managed to get a nice small one, that gives out 3.5v. Did the math VS the oznium 4chip led's - just barely enough!

After a lot of dremeling, swearing, taping, soldering and bleeding - Heres what we have!

I truely did luck out on the recharging system. I had no idea if I added a different battery, if it would recharge. However I was lucky, and it seems to recharge as per normal!

Onto the action!

Side-by-Side (no light, light)

Door

This was a major pain in the ass- but im really happy with the results!

My best peice of advice is to get some PCB board and make a "rectangle" strip the length/height of the "slot" the regular halogen bulb sits in, and put the LEDS in that.

I was using the peice of plastic there and just dremeling slots to fit the LEDS in through, and wires coming out of each into one point.

If you do it the PCB board way you can have all them wired onto the board and only 2 wires (pos/neg) coming out of it. Would have been much cleaner, easier, less finiky if I did it that way.

Not bad if this is your first time retooling something, I am sure you got a lot more satisfaction doing this and that is what matters. Good work on the math, it appears that you thought about it well.

Wouldn't be able to charge fairly, it was a huge headache to do and tedious as hell. Start to finish it probably took 8-12 (Did it over the course of a week).

Not really interested in doing it again.

How much power is going to the bulb? I may just buy an led from radioshack and put it in place of the bulb.
