My Ride: Breaks too often
It's more about how you look in a luxury car than the car itself, unless you're driving like an idiot.

you can do some damage with 40k.
The only one an average joe on the street may jump to any conclusions is with that s550, esp with those wheels.....perhaps the s8. all the others not so much...would hate to own a first year s550 out of warranty though...

any thoughts?
Your Honda should just be getting broken in at 150K miles.

My father lives in Troy, Michigan and commutes to various factories he owns in Detroit and surrounding areas.

Your right, its a terrible idea to get a flashy car here. The thugs, poor people in Detroit have nothing to loose and all to gain by getting in your way.

The best car my dad would ever get is a Cadillac CTS. The Escalade was too flashy, the car can not be Foreign, because he supplies mainly to GM in Michigan. Rolling up in a foreign car, especially that with some statement, only gives his employees and competitors the notion that he has enough money, no dedication and loyalty to American brands and his order numbers decrease.

Since 2003, only car he has ever driven to work down there is a Cadillac CTS, yet they comment how great it is. Its just too much to worry about for no reason.

It depends on the area. In DC, my car went generally unnoticed. In Seattle where most people drive older cars and Subarus, BMW isn't a popular brand, and they get some bad attention. Odd thing though after I started driving around with my roof rack I got cut off a lot less. Hippies.

You don't need a flashy car if you have a big dick.

I agree with this for the most part. my dad sells to GM/Ford/Chrysler and suppliers so he drives a 2010 Taurus. On the flip side, I work in finance and driving a BMW in the bloomfield hills/troy area is acceptable and I go pretty unnoticed.

Fade2Black, I think you're window tinter right? Being in and around Rochester Hills and the burbs, I think the S8 or M3 sedan would be a fun car that wouldnt attract too much attention. I dont think enough people in the area recognize the M. If drawing attention for driving a foreign car is an issue I dont think you'd be driving a Honda right now and in that case... CTS V. no doubt.

$35-$40k will not net you any negative, or positive attention.. at least not here in Nor Cal.

Don't buy a brand new car. Get a used 1-3 year old car and get a PenFed car loan with a rate of 2.49% for 60 months or 1.99% for 48 months.

I was looking at an S8 for my daily, gorgeous car.. my intentions being similar to yours, nothing flashy for my DD. However I couldn't deal with the size of it, I have to park in city areas on occasion and really prefer the "not a **** was given" style parking I do now in my little GLI. Lol.

HA Yes the 335i will be very cheap to maintain, especially once that extended HPFP warranty goes out. Turbos, wastegates, crap interior pieces, oh yeah. Have you thought about being a car broker?

The E90/92 M3 got a substantially higher reliability rating than almost every other BMW IIRC, including the 335i and 328i in the most recent consumer reports survey.

The warranty for the HPFP runs out at 120k, and the rest is common problems with all BMW's. If you don't know about the 1000 noises and small things M cars have happen to them, then you need to research.

Have you borrowed from them before? It is just that their website looks like a generic scam site.
