320Ci - Cold start misfire + running rich
Evening all, my first post on this forum as I cannot find the answer on my local forum.
I own a 320Ci which has a 2.2 M54 engine. Problems: 1) First start-up from cold, cylinder 5 misfires and sometimes registers as 242 cylinder 5 burn fail. As the idle drops down from 900 to 700 rpm the misfire smooths out. I can then turn off the car and restart and there are no problems. I have switches coils/spark plugs to no avail. Also fitted a new rocker gasket and sprayed around the intake hose with carb cleaner. 2) ![]() Shows that the car is running rich during operation under normal and high load and the ecu is compensating and making the mixture leaner. This is also backed up by carbon deposits on the plugs. Any ideas would be great as I am slowly running out of options. |

Is there anyway to test for this? Or is a visual inspection best the only way?

I cannot believe there is noone on this forum with any helpful suggestions. I cleaned the MAF today and that has made no difference.
Car started from cold, vibrates (misfire) until idle speed drops down to 700 approx. When I blipped the throttle the idle would drop down to 500 before climbing back to 700. Any ideas on this new development? Do we think they are linked? |
