*not a scotch post - sue me*

I took a chance with some Trader Joes bourbon and it sucks lol. I love Trader Joes and the bottle was nice so I thought I'd give it a shot since it was only $15.

For $5 more, Bulleit is a much better option.

I keep a bottle at my home at all times based on this thread. It is very smooth. Me and my brother in law drank and bottle to ourselves over a few hours.

HAs anyone tried the Pappy van Winkle 20 year Bourbon? I found it at total wine for 119. a bottle. It has been shown on No reservations a handful of times. Is it worth the hype?

I was just in KY and had some. Honestly, I'm not a bourbon guy so some of the complexities of its were lost on me. The KY bourbon society guy that was giving us the tasting was saying it was hyped up too much.

I personally liked the Henry Mckenna much more (he called it a scotch lovers bourbon), and it was a lot cheaper:

that is a huge price difference. I normally drink bookers, woodford reseeve or markers. I saw it and thought it might be good.

Try the Henry Mckenna or Four Roses if you ever fine them.

Frankly, I cant ever see paying $100+ for bourbon when I find the scotches at half that price so much more refined. Just my opinion though.

I have spent a lot of money an same alcohols just to try them. Normally I don;t go over hte 80 dollar mark and that is for scotch. Boubon is normally no more than 50 or 60.

Has anybody tried bourbon and tonic? I decided to give it a go just for the hell of it and it's amazing lol.

FWIW, I love tonic water, even on its own. I know a lot of people don't like the taste.

Once. I had a bottle I didn't like (don't remember what it was), and I ended up finishing it with a lot of tonic. Wasn't the best, but it was better than drinking it straight.

I posted earlier in the thread that when I first started getting into scotch, dewars white or johnny black with club soda is the way to go. i haven't tried it with tonic because I'm just not crazy about it since I started doing club soda (or perrier) but i can imagine it is great for those who like tonic.

I wouldn't use a good bourbon for the mix, but for something that I can drink all day, this is great. I've tried mixing with Perrier and I didn't care for it.

Ya for a good scotch I always have it neat, sometimes i'll put one ice cube in it. A lot of people don't like the mineraly aspect of Perrier, I do.. but if not, club soda

how the hell do you like tonic but not perrier?

FYI keep this weekend open, i'll be in LA friday to tuesday... well, i'll be down in SD friday to saturday morning, visiting my aunt and uncle for friday night

I love Perrier... drinking one now lol

Since bourbon is very sweet, I think it pairs well with the bitterness of tonic. Call me crazy, but bulleit + tonic tastes like ginger ale lol.

I've tried Japanese whisky (much closer to scotch) + Perrier since it seems to be popular in Japan and I didn't care for it.
