Out of state ticket - question about insurance

I hold a PA driver's license and recently got a ticket in NJ. According to PA law, minor out of state violations such as speeding will not be added to my driving record.

Given that PA will not add it to my record, will my insurance be unaffected even if I plead guilty?

While both states are a members of the DLC and thus share information, you will not receive points on your license for a minor moving violation. Your insurance should remain unaffected.

It really depends on how fast you were going.

PA and NJ have different views on that vs. points. Even if you don't get points in NJ, you could in PA

its possible that even in PA your minor ticket would go unnoticed. your policy typically is not reviewed annually, unless u have had claims, late payments, etc.

some tickets will be reported out of state, some wont. as long as its your first one, and relatively minor, likely nothing to worry about.

So is it fair to say that if it doesn't appear on my record, it won't effect my rates?

Never seen you in MT Top, but I only roll by on my way to Wilkes-Barre from White Haven

Anyhow - Back in the day, I had my DL suspended for too many points (speeding) in PA, insurance never knew anything.

I would say that fact that your ticket was out of state puts you further out of the reach of your insurance company and to some extent PennDot. So dont worry about it.

If I got a ticket in NJ (it has been a long time) I would just pay it and forget it. Paying to speed.

Hey, don't see too many local folk on here

I'm leaning towards just paying -- doesn't look like it will appear on my record. And since my insurance policy renewed just last month, I should be safe from a rate increase for at least a year.

Gotta pay to play I guess. Though I wasn't really playing. I was just keeping up with traffic, and was neither the first or last driver in the line. C'est la vie.
