Any truth to the transmission never needing to be flushed or have filter change? Mine is 2005 330i w/160K...
Well...I called BMW today and asked if they could flash my comp to stop a hard shift down I am getting.
First thing the guy said was since my car has over 100K miles I need to do a BMW trans service immediately. ($800)

100k is technically when they are supposed to be done.

Any idea what is included in that $800 service??
If that's changing all the seals and things that need to be changed that's steep but better than a new transmission.
If its just fluid and filter change then that's ridiculously high priced.

Very NICE!!! Great info... Mine is leaking from the heater hoses that connect to the front of the engine... Does the intake manifold have to come off to fix this? also Part #'s would be great.
Thanks!!!

Thanks for this helpful thread.
I have already followed the same inspecting procedure and found out that i have a power steering fluid leak, and i hope its just the clamp. Gonna fix it today at my dad's shop.
This leak has given me a big problem, because all the fluid spilled on my garage floor.

so I just recently replaced my valve cover gasket because I was leaking oil. however it is still leaking. I usually have a lot of oil on top of my oil filter housing, do you think it is my oil filter gasket leaking? is there any other way to tell what the leaking is from. it is definitely the oil that is leaking as my oil is usually low.

Is it the vanos line dripping on the filter housing? Post a pic.

Your vanos line might be leaking, or the hose to your oil seperator. Can you post a few pics?

Ok so I'm not sure what I am actually looking for but here are the pics that I just took.
https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/IMAG0226.jpg?w=5cd46655
Usually the oil filter housing on the left is covered in fresh oil, it has been sitting over night so it must have dried up.
https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/IMAG0227.jpg?w=493d0cf8
You can see that the valve cover gasket doesnt appear to be leaking and you can actually see the sealant.

Blow up of sealant.

If i need to take anymore pics just let me know what I need to take a picture of and from what angle(s)

Thanks a lot guys!

The power steering reservoir looks like your cap/seal is oozing. Also may be your vanos line, from what I can see from my phone, its pretty oily. Cheap fix, two bolts, two washers and line will run about $40...i got mine from ecstuning. Hard to tell if oil filter housing is leaking, easy to swap out as well, dont forget a new gasket. Vcg looks good!

My Ride: 2002 325i
Awesome post, thank you all. I am a first time poster and found this thread when my oil separator valve was toast. I replaced it and nine hours later my 2002 325i was running. Now the coolant light comes on with the oil light on startup and then goes off when running. I have had to refill the coolant several times after going 30-40 miles. Anyone have any idea if I could have created this leak while replacing the oil separator valve? It seems like I would have needed to have the hands of a five year old chinese girl in order to do this smoothly so there is a strong chance I could have hit something.

Another issue that arose last night was that my car would start and then die after a few seconds. Pushing the gas pedal did nothing. I have had an issue in the past with my fuel gauge not registering an empty tank so I am assuming it is a fuel pump issue. I just wanted to thank you for the info and find out if anyone knows of something stupid I may have done that is causing this. My car has 130,000 miles so all of the plastic parts are engineered to fail by now.
