Rough Shifting

Hey guys,

I recently bought an 02 e46. Did most of the fluid swap myself but still having a rough time pinpointing what is the cause of my bad shifting. Was hoping that the transmission fluid (used Redline) will cure all problems but it hasn't.

Car is still experiencing, rough 1st-3rd gear, shifter poping out, reverse gear difficulty.

Would changing the clutch (bleeding the brakes?) help with this problem.

Any help or tips appreciated!

Well it could possibly be shift linkage related, or I hate to say it, but sounds like it might be time to swap in a good used tranny.

Should have mentioned, look for a bent shift fork in terms of the linkage.
Otherwise its probably the syncros giving up and not properly locking it into second.

I had this prob on a 98 318ti. It would pop out of 2nd violently and scare the shit out of me. Turned out it was the shift fork. Replaced and all was good.

Have you noticed that it grinds or otherwise makes some bad noises if you pull the shifter around side to side in gear?
