RIP... money shift

So, can't explain this exactly but for some reason when shifting to 4th, the car went into 2nd and redlined the engine. MOney Shift as ppl call it. Its happened one time several months ago (but no damage) , i thought it was something i did, but missing a gear twice is not like me, Not sure why but i swear it slid into 4th. Anyways the car died yesterday, had it towed to dealership and they said that cylinders 1,2,3 have no compression and 5 and 6 are very low. Saying a new motor installed is $10,500. its a 2002 325ci with 110,000 miles.

what u guys think the options r?
1. should i have the engine stripped and checked again?
2. put in a used engine?
3. take the $1,500 from a the tech guy offered and buy a new car?

does anyone know of a good shop around the DC area that might want to offer more for the car or want to fix it??

I would swap it, but that's me and I would DIY and have a huge attachment to my car. For most people, it's probably time to sell it.

Same place? I've read about a place called "Impressive Auto" in New York doing S54 swaps before and I am strongly considering making the drive up there for this.

i'd swap it.....but if you've had it for a long time and bored of the styling etc? then maybe it would be time to move into something different.....

This. If you're okay with spending $6500, its one upgrade you won't regret. Unless you money shift again.

Seriously only $6,500? It seems like this would be the better route than forced induction for the price.

Unless that price doesn't include anything other than buying the motor and setting it inside the engine bay without mating anything to it...

You don't really need to go all out and get the S54. M54B30 would be nice upgrade and it's a plug and play swap. If you can DIY you can fix your car for 2K (engine, gaskets, cooling overhaul, hoist rental)

I'd buy a new whip and still keep your broken down one and part it out.

Guess this option is not available to everyone depending on their location. I would much rather get an S54 for ~$1500 over the F/I route. If I'm not mistaken, the swap included a 6-speed Getrag.

Like I said... I'll drive to NY if that's parts and labor included. I'm sure I could find some roach motel to stay in for a week or two.

Call em up and confirm. It may be the type of deal where they keep your original engine and tranny as part of the price though.

Depending on the current condition of your car (shell wise). I would pick 2. For future reference, you can avoid doing the "money" shift again by using a back hand technique upshift from 3rd to 4rth.

Please swap in a M54B30 and open your engine and see what the damage is, if you're lucky you could get away with a new head(unless you want to do the work in changing valves) and a HG.

I sent them an e-mail. I don't think I'd mind, to be honest. I wonder if they swap the axles, differential, etc...

Yeah... I think a phone call would be better. I may hurry up and pay off my car to get a loan for this. Should I rebadge it as a 332Ci?
