so If OP gets the 6500 s54 swap great, then what happens when the car gets hit in the sweet spot for our cars...the rear quarter panel a few days later and spending that much on a motor wont help up its value when it comes time to judge whether its totaled or not. Is there any way you can get something like this insured? I have been thinking about doing this swap but I have a 323i and KBB is only 4 grand, so if i get hit im fucked, if anyone has an answer to this and knows a way to insure it im driving up to new york next week.

I got hit in my driver's quarter panel earlier this year. $1,400 in damage. I use State Farm and they seem to be good about reimbursing you for any aftermarket stuff. When my Mustang got totaled, they added in the price of the cold air intake and pulleys I bought when I provided receipts.

Bimmer App made this happen. Don't be jealous.

500 for the panel
800 for the job(cutting old one out and welding new one in +paint)
100 for paint

$6k must have been more than a panel , bent unibody or something

If you get hit in the back where the quarter panel and rear panel meet you are looking at a costly repair, I got in a fender bender and it was $2500 for two 6" dents on the drivers rear corner...imagine a larger impact in that area

But who will insure the motor swap so it will be added to the value of the car and it won't get totaled, I'm either going to do that swap or buy a ninja 500r and give my car a break from its daily commute to work and school.

I dont know how It works In other parts of the world but on our end , If you have modified a car and you want full protection to a car thats been modded then Its wise to declare youre mod list , Chances are If you car was stolen or damaged Insurance companys will give you half the value of what the Item Is worth , Depreciation value takes affect In most cases.

As you know yore Insurance will go up all depending how much you declare.

What I would recomend Is have a private evaluator evaluate the car give him a brownie 100$ bill extra so he could raise the valued price , Fax or hand that over to youre Insurance company.

Again If stolen or damged you have a value of the car,There for you wont loose out.

I had my car evaluated , Gave the guys an extra brownie and my car stands at 16k

It was way off base for the tech to offer to buy your car.
Also, I would never trust a tech who offered to buy your car based on his diagnosis.
None of this means that your engine isn't trashed. It was just bad form on his part, and makes it seem shady.

I think if anything, he should do a 332Ci badge.

"What's a 332?"
"An ///M3's little sister."

Sell it as a project car to someone else, it's not worth squat even with a good engine. Get one with a step auto trannny.

I'm from ny and my car strictly goes to impressive after I found out about them. I can't comment on the price but I can say they do have really good prices for labor/parts. Go for it if you can, they're worth it.

Anyways the car died yesterday, had it towed to dealership and they said that cylinders 1,2,3 have no compression and 5 and 6 are very low. Saying a new motor installed is $10,500. its a 2002 325ci with 110,000 miles.

what u guys think the options r?
1. should i have the engine stripped and checked again?
2. put in a used engine?
3. take the $1,500 from a the tech guy offered and buy a new car?

does anyone know of a good shop around the DC area that might want to offer more for the car or want to fix it??
Keep the car and do a 2jz swap
