I'm old school so I have to go with the mp5. Combat proven and cheaper ammo.
The concept of "stopping power" is usually considered to be a function of multiple aspects. There is no technical calculation, but just a personal perception. To date, no one has been able to quantify stopping power as a tangible measurement. The concept of stopping power made more sense when everyone used FMJ/BALL, lead cast, or simple cast hollowpoint bullets. Now that bullet technology has drastically increased in the past ~5 years, stopping power has gone from a legitimate perception to an antiquated notion. Just thought I'd throw that in there. Why? I'm a jackass and I have too much time on my hands.

Main thing is.....what would be the use of this weapon? Range or self defense? For range.....gonna cost you on ammo.
The way I see it, with the short barrel, it's a legit weapon for home defense. With the long barrel, it's a waste of money.
Short-barrel = submachine gun/SMG; long barrel = carbine.
If you want a carbine, get a legit carbine with a rifle caliber.

If you chopped the barrel or got the UMP barrel, SBR'd it with an NFA stamp, and then did the UMP conversion with the folding stock, it would be a much better weapon. For general use, it's a pretty worthless weapon. It would make a great home defense weapon, or a good "trunk gun" (if you are the type of person who might need one).

The UMP is a good gun and solid performer. The operating system is essentially the same as the MP5, but the SMG was built as a .45ACP first, and then they offered other calibers from there. In contrast, the MP5 was built as a 9mm and they went up in caliber. We have a couple UMP-40s, and they're pretty nice SMGs. Having played with both the MP5-40 and UMP-40, I prefer the ergos and controls of the UMP. The controls are nearly the same as the MP5, but they are slightly different in minor details, as you would expect from a newer model of weapon. The biggest complaint of the UMP comes from two major areas- rate of fire and polymer frame. The rate of fire is noticeably slower than the MP5, but they slowed it down intentionally to increase the control of the heavier .45ACP round. It makes the gun very controllable with little felt recoil, thus increasing accuracy. The polymer frame doesn't sit right with people, and it feels kind of weird. I think it works, but some don't. Some people prefer the old collapsible stock of the MP5, but I hated it because it was too long and only one position. The folding UMP stock has a shorter Length of Pull that takes into account the user's wearing of body armor- something the MP5 didn't account for.
While that's a bit off-topic, I figured I'd throw in my $0.02. If I were to want a 9mm HK SMG, I'd get an MP5. If I wanted a .40S&W or .45ACP, I'd get the UMP.

With all that being said, I would recommend looking into a Kriss-TDI Super-V as an alternative. I think it's a much better looking weapon with better options available.
Great Post ! Thanks for the Info!

Definitely not a trunk gun haha

I did look at a Kriss sitting right next to the USC. Price wise it was 1999 and this one was 1299 so it appealed more LOL

Second, after holding both, the Kriss felt a little off as opposed to the HK which fit into my hands a little better.

All my guns see range time. With that said IDK how much this one would see the range. I definitely wouldn't mind throwing a light and perhaps another accessory and making this a good home defense weapon. In the end it would be for HD and to add to the little collection I have.

Let's not forget I'm in CA . So some suggestions may only be applicable out of my state.

I like the USC, but as others have said, it makes more sense with a short barrel and folding stock.
