Anyone using Schrick 272 / 256 cams in M54B30?

Hi guys,

having a nice offer for 272 / 256 Schrick cams and wondering if anyone is using them? Maybe someone could let us/me know how the torque changed.

There is a member here using them in his 323, and made impressive power with them. Can't tell you how the torque curve changed, we have no before dyno.

Is there a after dyno sheet?

ive been told those cams are good for an increase of ~25hp in/at/on (whats the right word?) M54B30

Technically 'on' would work best because of how you phrased the question. And I wouldn't doubt they are that effective, I think those are as large as you can go keeping the vanos.

I imagine Vanos rattle will be pretty horrific, it is getting bad enough on my car with 248/256 (and I have the anti rattle kit).

VANOS rattle has nothing to do with the size of the cams in my experience

Not saying it's right or wrong but the more aggressive cam profile has always been the "best available explanation" for why ZHP cars have always seemed more prone to vanos rattle than non-ZHP cars.

You may need to make some more adjustments with your anti-rattle kit then. I'm running 248/256 with no vanos rattle.

All I know is that Schricks caused my rattle, within a few hundred miles of the install. My rattle is so loud I would not wish it on anyone .

Good to hear, from all the posts I read on the issue I assumed it could not be resolved. I will check it out, perhaps this will be the excuse I need to install an M3 tensioner as well.

Your best bet might be to talk with VAC Motorsports.

nope, lifters will remain stock, but lifters will be freshly honed on top.

valves will be weight reduced by 40%, valve spring clearance will be re-arranged, valve seats getting 5 angle valve job and compression slightly raised.

The only thing I'd question is this:

Would the 272/256 cams work well in the OP's Auto 330Ci ? I'd want to know the answer to this question with at least a little certainty before buying & installing them. If they did work, I'd also install the Supertech Valve Springs with Titanium retainers, about $500 & good to 9000 RPM.

Good luck,
Rob.
