OFHG done, oil leak persists

I had an oil leak on the driver side of the engine.
After much research and reading on this site, I narrowed it down to the OFHG. i did the job in about 3 hours. Cleaned everything.
I still have an oil leak.
No, it's not the VCG. I checked
Any and suggestions appreciated.

It's most likely the oil separator. It's under the disa valve and also a part of the CCV system. GL!

vanos oil line?

VANOS line(s) or crush washers, Oil filter top cap or lines, CCV lower oil return line.

Also you likely will need to remove your dipstick tube and clean it out, the tube is double walled and will clog easily over time.

I have a copy of the BMW SIB and pictures of what the dipstick tube looks like.

I've replaced my VCG, the VC too, the CCV+all lines and the OFHG, clear dipstick tube and I still have a leak somewhere I can't find. Very frustrating.

Might be the rear main seal..

Got a question about ccv failure symptoms. If the CCV fails, would the car burn oil? Would I see smoke out of the exhaust? My exhaust is normal. RPM is normal, nothing erratic about it.

If CCV oil drain is restricted you could burn oil and many times you will not see it due to Cats cooking it. The dipstick tube is a prime culprit that is very often overlooked.

how bad of job is it to replace it? Is it a complex job of moving tons of stuff and replace a ton of stuff while I am at it type?

The dipstick tube is underneath the throttle body. There is a single bolt that holds the dipstick tube in place on the side of the engine block and it just pulls out. The CCV drain tube is connected to the dipstick and will have to be replaced as it is cut off to remove the dipstick tube. It is simpler, well quicker, than the OFHG.

Not too hard of a job, like the other poster indicated, I think it is just 1 bolt, might be a bit tricky to get too?

Plan on and order CCV lower oil return hose, dipstick tube O-ring, dip stick O-rings.

To clean out the dual wall you need wire or find an old windshield wiper insert and use the thin metal wiper blade insert support to scrub and scrape out sludge along with some carb cleaner and maybe some compressed air.

Make sure the dual wall cavity is very clean and make sure the tube sits back in the block correctly.

First two posts...ccv or vanos oil line...which will leak at crush washers (replace all 4) or at the crimps...especially after doing the ofhg...if you overstretched it or something...it will seep from crimps. Hose is $40...the time to do it was when you were there anyway, but I think you can get to it pretty easily anyway...especially if doing ccv. Don't bother with just the dipstick, though...do the whole CCV. By the time you get dipstick out, I think you'll have a lot of the stuff you'd need out to do the ccv anyway. The vent hose is very brittle...and it will crack and seep oil down too.
