Post Split from - Mango Subframe Info Write-up including Risk Point Assessment System

Not sure why there is a double standard here, Tim. You are ferocious about removing posts that offend Mango, but you don't seem to hold him to any standard. I have had mocking posts from him, and some of his posts are extremely aggressive when challenged.

Mango's stuff has been useful, especially the parts lists, but it bears scrutiny that his posts seem to be a magnet for off-topic responses.

I've split your question to a new thread in the site feedback forum so we can discuss without taking away from the thread.

Sorry you feel there is a double standard. In generally I simply don't see all the posts. Mango seems to be a lighting rod with members for and against him. In the case of the members that are for him, they tend to report posts more aggressively than most, and the threads get more moderator attention as a result.

In general moderators don't go looking for issues, we either stumble on it as part of our own use of the site, or it is alerted to us by reports. To be clear a report doesn't mean that something will be done, but it does mean we will look at the post/thread. When it is the same 3-5 users crapping on another thread from Mango it gets old. I know that not everyone agrees with his advice/topics but that doesn't mean the thread should get filled up with a few members vitriol.

For those against Mango's advice I welcome them to create alternative threads about their techniques for maintenance, sub frames, cooking hot dogs or whatever. But as I stated above going into a thread simply to crap on it because you don't like the OP or the subject isn't something we've ever allowed regardless of who's posting. It just tends to be more concentrated in the threads that Mango creates.

To be perfectly clear Mango has a long list of interactions and removed posts from the moderators and myself so this is hardly one sided. I would say it is about 50/50 in terms of action by the mod team.

Tim

I think the best path is to ask whether self-promotion is a core attribute of the community. Mango has tried to monetize his participation in the past, and it starts feeling like he is simply doing content marketing through the forum.

It should feel like there are societal rules here, and the model should be JFOJ or Solidjake, or even Yoits.

Basically, just ask that people act community-first, self interest second.

I think some light debate on whether "replace everything" is kind of fun, as long as people aren't being d***s.

Obviously attacking any member directly should be verboten

In reviewing the posts again I was probably a little overly aggressive with removing some of the lighter hearted comments. But when the same people post the same old insults it gets old -

Quote:
what tool do i need besides you?

Perhaps because he pulled all the numbers from his ass, and the chart has no statistical significance whatsoever.

funny that fruity guy writes a pretty and lengthy thing with fabricated numbers and doesnt respond to questions posted... hmmmm
Light hearted ribbing I'm fine with, but as Mango threads tend to go down hill quickly because of comments like these above I will be a bit heavy handed to give a clear indication that the thread should stay on topic. I would rather give members lattitude, as we normally do in most threads, but as a few people can't determine what is fun and what crosses the line the thread is kept cleaner than normal.

Going back to your original question perhaps you're right that things aren't 100% even, but I hold that nothing I removed was substantial. What I stripped was generally just noise, even good humored noise (your post was funny after re-reading it in the context of having this discussion with you). I didn't feel I was removing real constructive feedback that shouldn't be deleted just because it conflicts with Mango's opinion.
