This is a good idea. I also thought about doing this next time I mount it to my board. You can buy a floating back FYI in case you ever want it.
I also strongly recommend letting the mount adhere for 24 hours. It feels like it is stuck but you're seriously risking it coming off if you don't.

Just picked up a Hero 2 HD to ostensibly use as an underwater cam when fishing - I hope to get some good shots of fish coming to the net, etc. Could someone recommend a decent video editing package to use? Not looking to spend a fortune, just something that is easyish to use.

Man, I love that place. used to play frisbee in the summer there. There is actually a mod to connect an apple pin into the back USB-->mic attachment.
