Another AR/Gun Show Question

I'm looking to pick up my first AR in the near future and had a question for the experts here.

Firstly, with my limited research, have narrowed the selections down to either a complete RRA Tactical Operator 2 or an M&P 15T. Not that I'm married to either of those two, but they basically fall at the higher end of my price range, I like the look and have read mostly positive reviews. I plan on doing only basic mods.

There is an upcoming gun show that I may check out. Being pretty inexperienced with the AR platform, what should I look for (wear and tear, abuse, etc) if I find a used one at a show at a deep discount? I've never been to a gun show and frankly, have no idea of how the purchase process works at one of these things...

Any advice on either the AR choice or show would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

O

your choices in brands are good. As for features I'll say a few. Google them and look for pictures and you'll know what you should be looking for. M4 feed ramps, flat top uppers are a good place to start. Reedo should be here any minute. I'm lazy lol.

Both brands are pretty decent. Some people don't like RRA, but I have had pretty good experience with their parts and components for builds. The RRA Tactical models are a good price right now due to their sale, which makes them more feasible of a purchase. The previous price was over-priced, but I think the $1000 price tag is commensurate with the quality and accessories you get.
The S&W M&P15 is a good rifle and there have been only a handful of issues with them since they've been introduced, and the issues were related to a bad batch of bolt carriers, which has since been rectified. Everyone I talk to that runs the M&P15 likes it. Several agencies up here have them, and they're having good success with them. S&W prices their rifles competitively in the "middle" price category, but I think they're pushing it a little bit with some of their models. Still, good rifles.
Both rifles come with a lifetime warranty if you're not the kind of person to tinker with your rifle.

I also recommend other great brands like Spikes Tactical and Bravo Company Mfg, but the wait times right now for their rifles vary between Long and Astronomical. The Spikes ST-15 is a fantastic rifle for a great price (~$900). I think wait times are 6-8 weeks. The BCM rifles are basically "Unknown" right now.

If you want an alternative, look into the Colt 6920. It goes for $1060 online, which is a great price. You don't get any options with it, but you get a pretty high quality gun.

Thanks Reedo!

Would you even mess with a used rifle if you're a relative noob? Any thoughts on gun show purchasing?
