New 7 Series: This Is It

BMW unveils the all-new BMW 7 Series, the brand's flagship in its sixth generation. The 2016 BMW 7 Series sets a new benchmark in lightweight design, driving dynamics, comfort, intelligent connectivity and intuitive operation. The extensive use of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the structure of the passenger cell and the strategic application of lightweight design reduce weight and increase both the overall torsion strength and bending stiffness of the passenger cell.

The all-new BMW 7 Series will be introduced in the US as a 740i and a 750i xDrive model featuring BMWs newest and groundbreaking technologies such as Gesture Control, Wireless Charging and the standalone option of the Display Key. An Active Kidney Grille will also be available for the first time in the US. The all new BMW 7 Series once again sets the standard for luxury performance, delivering the highest level of driving refinement in the premium class. The 2016 BMW 7 Series will arrive in the US showrooms in the fall of 2015. The MSRP for the BMW 740i will be $81,300 and the BMW 750i xDrive will be $97,400 (prices do not include $950 Destination and Handling).

2016 BMW 7 Series G12 Highlights
  • Groundbreaking Carbon Core passenger cell
  • Offered in the US exclusively as a long wheelbase version
  • World's first gesture control system
  • Active Kidney Grille and Air Breather
  • Optional 7 inch Touch Command Tablet
  • All new Display Key as a standalone option
  • Offering standard Wireless Charging and WiFi Hotspot
  • iDrive 5.0 with touch screen technology
  • Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, Ambiance Lighting and LED Light Carpet
  • Largest HUD in the industry
  • Two non-metallic and nine metallic color available for the exterior paint
  • Five Exclusive Nappa leather options available, five Dakota leather color variants for the 740
  • BMW 740i starts at $81,300, the BMW 750i xDrive starts at $97,400 (plus $950 D&H)

I just do not think I like it. Looks similar to the current model, but with uglier headlights.

That thing is executive. I like it. I wouldn't buy it, but I'll happily ride shotgun.

Looks are consistent with previous 7er's. The real headline news about this car is it's carbon frame construction, right?

How did you come to that most astute conclusion? Not everybody looks for the same thing(s) in an automobile. Your Dodge Durango really says, "Yep! I am the principal authority on all things automotive."

My Ride: so turbo wow
I love it.

Old people will hate it because they get confused by things with too many electrons in it.

Meh. BMW's designs have been consistently bland/fugly.

I don't care much for the wheels either, but thankfully BMW usually offers plenty of options.

New 7 Series: This Is It

Does anyone else feel like BMW is producing more luxury vehicles rather than having a good balance of sport and luxury?

Correct, they saved a ton of weight.

I do not hate it, but I think all those gestures and whatnot could get really annoying. I say the sweet spot in this category is the A8, I had a 2012 and really enjoyed it.

I have a W222 now, and I must say the interior is great, exterior is stunning but it handles like a boat. The technology is great as well, without going overboard. I just wish it had the option to firm up the steering.
