DIY: //M3 Secondary Air Pump Valve Delete

This may be useful for those running headers, tunes, SC kits, or a combination of mods.

BMW Part Number:

11121438086

Installation should be pretty self explanatory.

Here's what it looks like installed.

I've noticed an increase in bottom end torque and better gas mileage. Same net effect as in my 330ci.

This would be a great compliment to euro headers, and euro tune. Since IIRC, Terraphantm, noticed it did not throw a CEL for a disconnected SAP with the euro tune. (Terra, correct me if i'm wrong)

Absolutely, I passed inspection with the plate on my 330ci. I'm waiting on Terra to confirm the euro tune does not throw a CEL.

Depends on the state and if they hook up to the ECU. If they do this it can only pass with the Euro tune which will turn it to N/A in the DME rather than Not Ready as is done by tuning the SAP out of the DME by companies like AA, and this is only advisable for cars with headers, as your SAP is still very much needed for the longeivity of your Cats if you have O.E. manifolds.

Has anyone ever sniffed (A/F) the pipe with an euro tune and US headers? It may just be that the VANOS timing is not conducive to vehicles without euro headers. If we ever figure out a way to patch US tunes with BMW OE emissions EU2,EU3 and Euro in the case of the M3--using tunerpro--we would be golden.

If you mean U.S. stock manifolds then I have no idea. Although I imagine they're not going to be off by much if at all. The EU tune shouldn't touch A/F or spark maps. Either way if it did/does I would imagine that it would move the spark advance up, which should result in a better burn and a leaner A/F ratio downstream at the Lambda, but that would ultimately be compensated for by the DME, since its now getting a leaner reading out than what it thought it put in.

Not quite understanding what this has to do with passing emissions though, since they're going to be looking for a lot more than just an A/F ratio.

I like that first pic

Are you going to put Euro headers on or go for some aftermarket ones?

That would be great news if that were the case! However, It has not been proved. Last time I took my car to have it inspected, they didn't even open the hood. They just plugged it into the E-check PC and let it rip.

On e46 M3's that is. All M3's ever produced were fitted with SAP's. Non-m's did not.

Yeah, but you have to remember Emissions inspections in VA are a joke to start with compared to somewhere like Cali.

On the flip side for you even if they did check that stuff you could just find a friend that lived outside of the emissions zone in VA and register it at their address so all you ever had to do was just pass the state inspection. I think the closest locale to you would be Spotsy but I'm not 100% if they had one or not since I was in Louisa.

yea, lol. Wouldn't I also have to pay personal property taxes on two counties if I were to do that? at least that's the case with friends that have done it.

Only if you owned the residence at the 2nd locale.

Otherwise you just pay the personal property tax on your vehicle to the locale its registered in.
