I bought the entire exterior/interior LED set from LEDautomotive.com

They're LED rear license plate and reverse lights are great. Much brighter than OEMs. In my opinion if the LED's are any more brighter, I think its more harmful than it will do good...

I've had those spotlight-style LED bulbs in the reverse light housings and noticed the same issue as you, they dont utilize the reflector in the housing. For that reason I've been checking out the tree-style LED bulbs. I have a set in there now that are about the same brightness as a halogen bulb, and it properly uses the reflector and looks great. I would like to get a little brighter and maybe if they make these tree style bulbs with the higher watt LED's we'll have a real winner

I bought these reverse LED lights off ebay, took a chance, just wanted to share with you all.
The bulb has two sets of lights, seems maybe for near and far objects?
As you can see there is illumination of the immediate area, but I also noted there was a beam that went straight out, seems parallel to the street surface that illuminates vehicles. Look at the suv lighting up. I also have a pic of my front neighbor's car across the street as I am pulling into my own driveway, can see the beam in the side mirror? If you interested, the links are below. The 12 SMDs do a good job of filling up the reflector housing, too.

it's not long, the picture makes it seem so, but it's smaller than it seems and it's a perfect fit, and no codes or flickering

sure thang ..... i should also let u guys know,,, i previously owned the Cree Q5 7watt bulbs without the SMD leds, but i didn't like them, yes they are bright, too, but IMO they did a poor job at filling up the housing with light and you also notice the red base which made the housing during the day look dull and that didn't go well with my silver car, so i went with the bulbs above and i am very pleased

Have you experimented with other LED options and have feedback. I have a 2006 M3, I have seen LED/aftermarket bulbs that have improved an interior and some that just make it too freaking bright.

I think I am ok with the standard 'unlock' lighting, but my map lights could be a bit brighter (or maybe my 40 year old eyes a bit better?). I do have invisibulbs in my fogs and side markers already.

you should just keep your map lights stock. the LEDs don't produce that much usable light. they appear to be brighter, but you can't use the light. and especially if you're older, it's harsher on your eyes.

+1
That's the thing about LEDs that most people ignore - lack of usable light, as you said, is the best description (although, when you look AT them, they seem so freakin' bright.)

I've bought Khoalty's P&P kit (cheapest one) and I am satisfied. It is subtle, not too bright at all, usable light is so-so, as sillie said, worse than standard festoon bulb, but odd enough, map lights are pretty usable (and my eyes are far from perfect, also.) The colour is pure white, not the blue-ish - purple-ish-I'll-put-it-on-my-93-Civic-and-make-it-hoooot kind. It is so pure white, from outside it almost seems green-ish due to OEM windows having some tint to it, which some people might not like.

well that blows, $20 wasted. oh well. i'll keep my current ones from LEDautomotive and give these away or something.

As for my map lights, not gonna argue about LEDs and whatnot cause im no expert. but what i do know is my LED map lights front and rear from Nate @ LEDautomotive, my GF hates em cause she says they blind her every time. And i can read stuff VERY will with them.

yea i can read it fine with mines too. it's just that your eyes work harder with the light than it would with normal bulbs.

and yea girls hate the LED lights. my gf says it's because it makes her skin looks weird and ugly lol

I'm with you Snikwad, I bought the interior led kit from LEDautomotive, they have a bluish hue to it, at first I didn't know how to feel about them, but people think it's cool, so I decided to keep them. Now my girl has me installing a set in her car
