World's First F30 Race Car Takes the WIN in first race

BMW F30 goes racing

With the 6th generation 3 series sedan, chassis code F30 having been on sale for less then two months a F30 335i has already been gutted, caged and raced! ADF Motorsport and Team Afrox built this N55, TwinPower single turbo powered 335 over 6 weeks with extensive use of BMW M Performance Parts. Total build costs was a staggering $260,000.00 USD.

This last weekend was the first race of the season for Team Afrox and overall they had a great showing taking home first place in the feature race

BMW F30 goes racing

A winner from the start

Out the box, Team Afrox's new 335i raised the bar at Killarney setting
blistering times in all the dry practice sessions. Etienne van der Linde and
Anthony Taylor took very little time finding their groove. An initial
down-pour saw Audi dominate the time sheets, but as a dry line started to
form, the F30 soon shot up the time sheets. By the end of Friday's sessions,
Team Afrox engineers and drivers alike pondered at the chance of actually
qualifying the F30 on the front row on Saturday morning.

With little testing and seat time for the drivers, Team Afrox started the
qualifying session, it was the closest qualifying session seen in production
cars for many years, with only thousands of a second the Audi's of Johan
Fourie and Michael Stephen out qualified championship leader Taylor, with
van der Linde down in fifth position.

Race one started with a gaggle of all wheel drive cars taking advantage of
the static start, Taylor fought off many challenges but soon fell out with a
calibration issue with his throttle. Etienne fought bravely to bring his BMW
home in fourth place.

Race two had Etienne start from a better grid position, he used the power of
the twin powered BMW to full effect, bringing the car home in second place.
Team mate Taylor had to start from pit lane, he pushed hard, showing his
intention for the feature race, Taylor set the fastest lap time cementing
him in pole position for the feature race.

Race three was the opportunity for Taylor to shine in his brand new 335i. He
romped off never to be challenged again, winning by an impressive margin,
delivering the maiden win for the Team Afrox BMW. Etienne did not have it
all his own way, after passing the Audi before turn two, he was "t-boned" by
an over zealous Sipuka, rejoining the circuit he fought his way back
finishing the race in 5th position.

Donovan van Heerden * Team Principal: "Team Afrox will be delighted with
this performance at Killarney, to take away a pole position, fastest lap and
a race win is what we expected after all the effort put in by ADF
Motorsport. The new 335i is the perfect platform for Production Car Racing,
it's superior engine and chassis a direct contribution to the successful
debut of the race car".

Anthony Taylor * Team Afrox BMW A19: I had a lot of pressure on me to debut
the F30 with a race win, after heat one's problems, I remained confident
that I was going to be fastest, ensuring pole position for the feature race.
The car was sublime! I used my M Performance brakes to full affect,
attacking the circuit, I posted the lap times I was looking for. The feature
race was a win from lights to flag, nobody could challenge me in my Team
Afrox BMW, it finished the race far ahead of the field ensuring Team Afrox
and BMW SA the first win in the world for the new M Peformance BMW 335i.
As championship leader am I looking forward the the next round in Port

Etienne van der Linde * Team Afrox BMW A10: It was frustrating and exciting
at the same time. The day's racing was typical of the championship, hard and
fast, the Team Afrox BMW is a fantastic race car, but with to many race
incidents I could not achieve that first race win. The team can walk away
very proud of what was achieved in getting the two cars here and being so
competitive first time out. I was satisfied with a second overall for the
day and maintained my second place behind my team mate in the championship.
With more testing ahead the Team will be more experienced with the car and
even stronger for the next championship round.

Team Afrox would like to acknowledge it sponsors Afrox, BMW M Performance
Parts, Castrol and Akropovic Exhaust systems for their commitment to Team
Afrox BMW.
