I dont know about the 330i exactly but I've seen plenty and heard of plenty E46's running great over 200+ with proper maintenance. Is your engine acting weird at all currently? If its running fine right now and your just afraid of the number 159k then I wouldn't worry until something doesn't feel right with your car. Maintenance, maintenance, MAINTENANCE!

So, let's get this straight?

You're jumping the gun on replacing a perfectly good engine that's working well with a used engine?
Some on this board report cars in the 250K miles range.
What are you expecting to be the specific area or part that will wear out to doom your engine?
Bottom line is that you should take care of this engine until the engine lets you know that it will work no more. At that time the message will be clear.

The odometer stops working at about 450,000 km or miles, so noone really knows.

No but really the only thing that wears out on M54's are the piston rings and oilpump nut.

Do a leakdown test to see how well your rings work and just be happy with it
