Key issues

OK so, my key has stopped working as far as the electronic abiltiy to remotely lock/unlock my car. I didn't mind I just switched to my spare but now several months later my spare is doing the same. Is there a battery in the key that you have to replace or do I need new keys. I am really lost in the sauce
