Weekend Project: Seeing Sound with an Arduino and a lot of LEDs

I picked up a long strand of 5050 LEDs last week for $20 (link). They came with a remote that has a good number of colors but static lights are boring so I got them hooked up to my arduino and spent yesterday morning and most of this afternoon working on some python code to get the two talking. I found a similar project online that used 6 LEDs as a visual equalizer so I took her code and modified to work for what I needed. All it's basically doing is reading in an audio stream and turning the sound wave into a set of discrete frequencies thanks to this guy. The code is in the youtube description. I'm still working on things, tweaking it to work better, but here's a quick video showing it in its current state.

You can pay someone to work on your car too, but that isn't the point is it?
