RSM Bolts Sheared


So about a week ago, I installed the beefy RSM's I got from Turner. After doing a bit more reading, I also decided to get the tower reinforcement plates. I was just about to install those, and was in the process of removing the nylock mounting nuts that are included with the Turner kit when I realized that the bolts on the new mounts were turning, not the nuts. About two turns of the wrench later, one bolt on each mount sheared off! Now there's not enough thread left exposed to mount with the reinforcement plates! Has anyone else had this happen? Anyone know where I went wrong? The nuts weren't cross-threaded. I installed them by hand before snugging them down. Does anyone know if those mounting bolts are removable from the body of the mount, or do I have to replace the whole mount? These are the kind where you have to take out the carpet from the trunk to get to the mounts, not where the nuts are accessible down in the wheel-well.

i did that the other day, luckily was gonna keep my GC ones but just changed to RE RSMs, i had with the kit.
You can buy just the reinforcement plate/bolts from RE.

Wow! That will totally solve my problem if I can get the mounting bolts out of the mounts. I'm gonna go try. I suspect they may be reverse threaded...

no, theyre not, but i found out, they vary in thread pitch.

For the life of me, I couldn't get them out and wound up putting my old ones back on (they're not blown...yet) so it would at least be driveable. Makes me think they did something temperature wise to either expand the holes or contract the bolts, but I'm not gonna get them out without breaking something, either a bolt or my knuckles. I could try a torch I suppose, but I might just throw some Christmas money at it and replace the mounts, unless anyone can think of something clever?

So I talked to the guys at Turner today and the bolts are actually pressed into the mounts, which explains the hard time I had not getting them out. New ones can be pressed in but I would need a machine shop to do it.
