Question Weird occurence: Momentary Cut Out

Hi all, intermittently, about 4 occurrences in the last 5 months or so, while driving , I feel a sudden drop in power like the engine cuts out which naturally prompts me to look at the dash and all I see is the Battery Light flick on then off again as the car resumes as if nothing happened??

I have PA Soft and EDIABAS as well as Torque Pro so I have checked for errors and get none, all my readings in INPA appear normal and other than this the car runs perfect.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

The "battery" indicates that the alternator isn't supplying power to the engine/battery-charging system at the time of the flickering indicator light. Insufficient DC electrical power can certainly result in a perceived loss-of-power condition.

So, you need to uncover why your "battery" light is flickering. The first diagnostic step should be having an electrical-system load test performed on your vehicle; most of the national-chain auto-parts stores (AutoZone, etc.) will perform the test as a freebie. The first part of the load test will let you know if your alternator/DC-regulator is OK and capable of supplying the voltage and current necessary to run the car. The second part of the load test determines if your battery is able to hold a charge sufficient to meet the electrical needs of your car. One or the other is likely weak and in need of replacement.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses guys, now that I think about it, the issue commenced when I installed my subwoofer and amplifier, however, at the time that these cut outs occurred, 90% of the time I had the music off. After the install, for a few days I kept running Torque and monitoring the voltage which was usually at 13.2V and every now and then dropped to 12V but this was not at the time of the cut off. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the cut off is so momentary by the time my eyes flick to the Torque screen, the power is back and voltage is reading at 13.2V.

Will get a check at the weekend on the alternator and its 1,000km from a service.

Will update soon.

Replace the alternator's voltage regulator. I bought a Bosch regulator for about $40 from FCP.
