Looks good! I would definitely buy it if you could have an unbiased third party test the strength of the tabs compared to a factory one. I may buy one anyway.

+! Looks like a nice piece. 2000 miles doesn't really show us anything IMO. Even an inferior mig welded piece would last that long I bet. It's the long term fatigue that a lot of us are concerned about which unfortunately can only be proven by years of use, or stress testing.

Definitely looks like I'd be interested in this piece though

Applications of 4130 Steel

Steel alloy 4130 is typically used for structural applications. This steel alloy finds many uses in the aviation industry due to its good strength, ductility and corrosion resistance. This steel also exhibits excellent toughness and elongation, which are useful in the fabrication of critical aerospace parts such as fuselage safety cages. Unlike those of other steel alloys, the physical properties of 4130 chrome-moly steel do not alter with time, a process known as aging. A lack of aging effect makes 4130 steel a natural choice for applications where dependability is essential, such as in the manufacture of airplane components

Just found out my hub is broken as of today. Does anyone have a DIY Thread they could point me in the right direction. The dealer is killing me. Thanks in advance.

Did BMW ever update these parts like they did the cam bolts? My car got a new one in 2009 IIRC

Hammer and anvil vs chrome-moly tab
Playing around, seeing how much abuse it could take without breaking.

These pictures are of the first hub we rebuilt, it is in my daily driven car. We have since improved our hubs over this one. They are now lightened, balanced and polished.

5000 mile check

Same here. I actually inspected a few cars in the shop i use and none of the hubs are damaged. I'll be checking the bolts on my friends HPF STG 2 and my car too.

I am new to this forum and to the e46 m3 community. With that being said I am not new to combustion engines and performance. To OP I was unable to see your pics on m3forum.net due to a work computer. Those guys need some help. From my experience with machining and fabrication I think your design is brilliant. Simple, fast and strong. I would be honored to put your hub in my car. What I am most impressed with is the fact that you rounded the outside of the tabs to allow more surface area into the pump, reducing stress on the weld. BMW did not even notice that a square tab and a round hole do not work well at 8k rpms with high lift cams. If it can be broken I will break it. No big deal I will fix it. That is how I like to spend my spare time. If it holds up to my abuse it is not going to break. Some of the smartest people have to just trust time and good old fashion real world testing. That is why the dyno queens built by engineers almost always make bad street/race cars. Let me know I will be a test mule.

Just an update I thought I had the most miles on one of our 4130 hubs, but I was way wrong. I have 7400 miles on mine.
Shadow was one of the guys that got my hub for free.
