That's very interesting, my lift came with a White Garden Hose to make it work. Also I've found that when I'm not lifting Bimmers, I can water the plants with it !

Rob

PS, Get back to work.

Awesome stuff, woman! I admire you for taking on the challenge. More than anything because I'm doing something quite similar - M54B25 5MT -> M54B30 6MT in my wagon - with some slightly different problems to deal with.

sorry for the delay. I have been very busy.

Today I managed to work on the car for a few hours. I managed to test out the EZ lift and I am very pleased with my purchase. I used the casters to push/move the car around the garage with very little effort. the car felt like feather weight on the EZ lift when moving it around the garage.

raising the EZ lift to 25inch (max: 26 inch) was very easy with a power drill. At 25inch I had plenty of room to work on the car. the under carriage is virtually free/expose.

anyhow....things that were accomplished today:

removed exhaust, removed heatshielf, unbolt drive shaft.

this past weekend we had a severe weather system in OK. The wind were so strong that it knocked down our recently purchased 10yrs tree

here is the car at 25 inch (max height is 26)

Here is a picture of my regular car jack at maximium height compare to the EZ lift at 25inch

As you can see there is PENTY OF ROOM to work underneath the car

I had a difficult time removing the exhaust/header nut so I used PB blaster and my portable torch to break the rust

All done

after the ubolting the exhaust from the various hangers and support bracket I was glad that the EZ lift has the cross bar. the heavy exhaust rest on the cross bars while I tried to push/pull the exhaust toward the back of the car.

almost there. again, exhaust was very heavy. at times like this I wish I was stronger

Since I couldn't move the exhaust around I decided to get smart and get used some dollies (spelling) instead

I am going to store the exhaust outside until I am ready to reinstall it. I sholved some newspaper in the ports to prevent critters from building a nest inside
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shot at 2012-04-15

next step is to remove the heat shield so I can gain access to the drive shaft/flex disc
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shot at 2012-04-15

heat shield done!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shot at 2012-04-15

a view of the drive shaft. not only did the heatshield protected the driveshaft from the exhaust heat it also kept the under carriage relatively clean

unbolting the flex disk driveshaft from the tranny
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

the flex disk seems like it is in decent shape with some minor rubber detoriation. I am going to replace it anyway since I am down here. Going to order the guibo soon

Just a few more steps before I can pull the engine out such as draining the tranny fluid, motor oil and disconnecting the trany/shifter linkage

that is less obtrusive than I thought - what lifts it again? (a drill)

can you take pics of it under a lowered car (preferrably E46)

I have rubber flooring so the wheels/casters may not like my floor much - any thoughts?

My floor:

No Problem. My 323i is lowered (UUC Suspension) so I will take a picture of the EZ lift when I start taking the 323i apart. the EZ lift is only 2-2.5 inches when it is fully lowered so this car lift will work on even the lowest car.

the EZ lift is operated by a power drill (purchased seperately) using a 3/8 deep socket. You can operate it using a regular rachett but of course it will take you much longer.

seriously, I had a little of buyer remorse when purchasing the EZ car lift. My remorse was so bad that I didn't even test it out after purchasing it. I just assembled it and left it in the garage and said to myself "what a waste of money." However, today I was very pleased with it. The pictures does not do the the height clearance any justice. There is plenty of clearance. There was so much clearance that I was able to lay on my back and used both of my legs to support the exhaust when I was trying to remove it like this

Since you have rubber flooring (btw...I like it...never seen that setup before) I am sure pushing the car is still possible but requires more strength to break the surface tension/static friction of the two surfaces. Now, if you are just talking about pushing only the EZ lift then your rubber floor shouldn't be an issue. the EZ lift is only 50 something lbs so moving it around in your garage floor shouldn't be an issue for you.

the casters (purchased seperately) is used to transport the car around on the lift. This is perfect for me because I don't have to lower the car to the ground and push the car in and out of the garage.

Lastly,

my concern was more with the raising and lowering of the car - in your pics the "wheels" look to be small silver units that look like they would cause my floor to buckle...jacks do it occasionally

oh...I see. The company sells a floor adapter that help distribute the force. This option is used for those who wanted to protect their floors. I think this option will work for u.
