Sorry no update. I haven't given up. Just experience some life altering event so my priority is a little different (pregnancy). Maybe I will remove the engine this week and post some pictures.

This doesn't have anything to do with getting revenge on your neighbor does it?

Congrats. And pics? Of the car?

thanks for the inquiry. I have experience a lot of life altering events. I am pregnant (2nd trimester) and I quit my job as a project manager for a Fortune 100 company (defense) and went back to being a pharmacist.

I am taking the entire month of JUL off so I can work on the car project.

July is now or never because after the 2nd trimester I will definitely won't have any time to work on the car.

The husband and I are also working on our Pergola project for the backyard too.

Update 13JUL

Summary: Finally pulled out the motor/tranny on the 325.

Pix1:
drain the tranny and motor of oil/fluid. Unplug the tranny wire harness, linkage and transmission fluid pipe

Shot at 2012-07-13

pix2:
remove the tranny mounts and bracket

Shot at 2012-07-13

pix3: unbolt the engine mounts

Shot at 2012-07-13

pix4: used a car jack to support the tranny.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

pix5: had to unbolt and lower the front subframe so that the engine oil pan can have better clearance

Shot at 2012-07-13

misc:

had to unbolt these two small wires from the starter
had to remove the Power Steering Pump since a bunch of hoses were connected to the steering rack
had to remove the power steering reservoir because of the hoses connected to the power steering system
had to remove a grounding cable that connected the engine mount to the frame

Wow very impressive. I like to think that this pregnancy is unexpected, being that normal people don't plan motor swaps while they are 6 months pregnant. Tell your damn husband and his buddies to do the work!

also, what was the company called? And you quit to become a pharmacist? That's like 6 college years for one job, then another two for a business degree.

People...that's crazy!!

update: my husband and I worked on the car for the last few days. we pressure washed the engine bay. installed the BMW factory alarm. Upgrade to the Euro tail lights and did the tail light recall fix. Changed the differential fluid and did the seal. just have to do the suspension and change out all the P/S hoses before I can dropped in the M52TUb25 engine into the 325. Oh wait...did the fuel pump and fuel filter too.

pix:
we had to disconnect the tranny from the engine so we had to remove the torque covereter from the flywheel. first step is to put the tranny on nuetral.

Shot at 2012-07-16

GM tranny

Shot at 2012-07-16

removing the torque converter bolt is much easier from the starter location

Shot at 2012-07-16

pressure washed the tranny so future leaks can be easily detected

Shot at 2012-07-16

flywheel from the bad engine. this flywheel will be transplanted into the other engine

Shot at 2012-07-16

on to the fuel pump

Shot at 2012-07-16

remove rear seat

Shot at 2012-07-16

remove plate

Shot at 2012-07-16

remove the retaining collar. no need for any special bmw tool. just use a brass jigamabob (for got the name) since brass doens't spark and mar the other metal pieces (brass is softer metal).

Shot at 2012-07-16

unplug the power plug and fuel line and pull out

Shot at 2012-07-16

fuel tank is full

Shot at 2012-07-16

gotta replace the gasket

Shot at 2012-07-16

next step is to replace the gasket. the key is to place the gasket on to the plastic collar and then install the pump into the gasket

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

fuel pump installed. the new gasket will help secure the fuel pump until you install the collar and plate. had to cut the fuel hose a little cuz the tip was fraying

same thing...use a brass punch

Shot at 2012-07-16

plug everything back

Shot at 2012-07-16

done

the husband did the tail light recall and I supervised

pix of damaged pieces.
plug was melted due to electrical arc.

last owner was ghetto and decided to wedge in a scew to ghetto rig the setup

Shot at 2012-07-16

more damage pix. this one is from the light bulb assembly

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

step1: transfer all the electrical bushing/wire/contacts to the new plug (indigo)

Shot at 2012-07-16

here is the parts you need to do this tail light recall yourself
wire tap...some electrical cord...electrical tape and some electrical tap. oh yeah and two brand new light bulb assemblies

Shot at 2012-07-16

tap the grounding wire and install it into the light assembly

Shot at 2012-07-16

this is what it should look like when done

now we upgraded to the tail light. we used a pre-facelift rear backup light with the facelift euro tail lights.

old

Shot at 2012-07-16

old vs new

Shot at 2012-07-16

all done.

Shot at 2012-07-16

on to the OEM alarm

here are all the parts for the alarm. tilt sensor, ultrasound sensor and horn. the horn is a euro horn (different sound/beep than USA)

Shot at 2012-07-16

installed the tilt sensor

Shot at 2012-07-16

installed the ultrasound. just line up the arrow and you should be good to go

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

last step is to install the horn and code the car

fuel filter. DME MS43 and newer comes with an intergrated fuel pressure.

old

Shot at 2012-07-16

unplug the lines

Shot at 2012-07-16

let fuel drain out before continuing

Shot at 2012-07-16

new verses old

Shot at 2012-07-16

done. had to reuse the rubber sleeve

Shot at 2012-07-16

pressure washed the tranny...rear differential and engine bay so that future leaks can be more easy to detect

Shot at 2012-07-16

tranny done

Shot at 2012-07-16

engine bay done

Shot at 2012-07-16

diff done. drain oil from differential

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

remove all the rear cover bolts. had to remove one of the rear differential securing bolt to lower the diff to acess some of the top bolts

Shot at 2012-07-16

diff cover used plastic gasket. bmw now uses chemical gasket

Shot at 2012-07-16

next step is to do the output shaft seal

hammer out the output shaft

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

remove the old seal

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

Shot at 2012-07-16

install new seal by driving it in. key is to lube the new seal so making it easier to drive in

Shot at 2012-07-16

press in the new output shaft. remember to install a new locking collar (comes with the seal)

Shot at 2012-07-16
