00 328ci idle drop

First starting the car when cold, it will idle around 1000 i think then drop to around 700 rpm like normal.
after a few seconds it drops to around 400 rpm almost stalling out and jumps back to 900 and settles at 700.
After it gets to normal running temp the idle smooths out and doesnt bounce around.

Besides maybe the icv and the intake hose which im going to check out could it be anything else thats causing this?

I have the same exact problem. Cold start, kind of rough at idle, a 500 rpm drop, then back up to idle. Usually doesn't stall but once in a while it will.

I haven't addressed this issue in my car yet since it only occurs during cold starts, but the research I have done leads me to think it's the VANOS seals. I would search it up.

It could be a number of things. More than likely the VANOS though. One of my very first e46's was a 2000 328i. I had the same issue on cold starts. After rebuilding the VANOS and cleaning the MAF the problems went away.

I'm also in agreement. Replace the VANOS seals and your issue will disappear

Lastnight i changed the plugs and was looking over the engine at vacuum lines. I found a hose going to a sensor under the front of the intake manifold wasnt clipped in right. Got it fixed and fired it up... idled perfect.
Today i fired her up and back to the idle drop again.
