My Ride: 2003 318i E46 auto
Newbie from Oz - Bad Start

Hi,

Yesterday I purchased a 2003 318i E46 (see attched).

Took it for it's first drive up the freeway and 30 minutes later...warning lights!

Took it to the nearest battery place and they replaced the battery and during testing of the new battery told me that the alternator was over charging the battery and would 'cook' the battery. Apparently the alternator is supposed to charge the battery at 14v and it's charging at about 16.5v. Anyone had this happen before?

Mechanic coming first thing tomorrow - not a great start to the world of BMW ownership, but I'm staying positive!
