This is further reason (as if we didn't have enough already) to not use crappy cheap chinese DDM/generic/khoalty hid bulbs. They run HOT.
First of all, to the best of my knowledge as a second owner, it only has factory bulbs.
As to the wiring, I took it to a BMW specialty place that said they can typically fix the wires, but that these are all "melted and fused together" into the housing, so they cannot be repaired.

Question

Still looking for a reasonably price alternate to these frigging headlights. Don't get me wrong, they are bright and I like how they turn. However over $1k to replace one housing without the guts is absurd.

Anyone else experience this problem as several BMW specialty places this is more common than people know?

so are all the wires messed up? usually it's the 3 wires that are connected to the connections on the ignitor that gets broken/frayed. do you have any pictures?

I don't, but considering I've had two different places(one a BMW shop who has fixed this problem for others before)say it is beyond repair, I am dubious of it getting fixed at this point.

--------------

Now I know some of you think I am nuts driving around with only one headlight and two fogs working, but I am not going to pay over $1000 to fix a frigging headlight. I'd rather swap out both for a less expensive alternative. That is especially true if the new ones could burn up again which seems to be a problem with this moving high intensity system BWM came up with.

Now I have another problem. The other side seems not to be working now.

I noticed when I restarted the car, it looked like it was trying to light, but then faded out. It did this repeatedly until now it is not working at all. Obviously I cannot drive around with only fogs, so I need to do something ASAP.
What are my alternatives for swapping out these two nice, but absurdly expensive headlights for much more reasonably priced ones?
