I may have found one to buy! - UPDATE

I've been searching for a while for a nice 330 coupe with steptronic. I'm going to see the one pictured below on Saturday.
It was bare metal resprayed 6 years ago in a Mercedes shop in a Mercedes pearlescent paint (I believe) by its owner who worked there and liked the colour. Paint is reportedly the same under the bonnet (hood) and in the boot - door jambs too.
It has 91k miles on it sadly, but a full history.
The interior is all black with dark wood trim - it's a bit drab actually but what the hell!
I hope it looks as good as it does in the picture and I hope it drives even better
We'll see on Saturday.

Sounds like a deal and the car definitely looks clean. If it doesn't have sport seats, see if you can knock a few pounds off the price so you can upgrade later. 91k miles isn't bad, but definitely ask about service history and, if you don't get receipts, assume it wasn't done. These cars start coming due for a lot of PM around 100K.

Yes I appreciate that if things like cooling system haven't been replaced they'll need to be. Check the sub frame for cracks. Check for the usual leaks etc.

The car has xenons and it does have sports seat and a full M sport package. I forgot to mention it was first registered March 03.

Looks like a deal to me then! I paid $6500 for my '02 330i with 118k on the clock this past year and it's been great. I've been chugging my way through all the PM's as I got zero service history.

Lol. I've had my 540 for the last 5 years and it had 110k on it when I got it. The service book was stamped up but I got no receipts for work done.
In all that time, apart from new brakes, wheel bearings etc it has only failed me once and that was due to a small heater hose failing at the back of the engine.
I've been very happy with it and will be sorry to see it go, but I like the 330 coupe :-)

It's one of those colors that people are either are going to like or hate.

I like it.

Yes, I'm sure you're right.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the pearlescent paint will look in the flesh. All those pearly glass beads staring back at me

Update!!!

False alarm I'm afraid
The paint was really nice except for a couple of light scratches on the boot lid. The car looked really nice except for 2 holes in the front bumper where the spots should be.
I asked him about those and he said it didn't have spots but he would get some from ebay
The rip in the drivers seat side was worse than it looked (but he said it would be repaired before it was sold).
The passenger seat elextrics worked fine
The driver's seat electrics did not work at all
No HK sound - no HK subs - no extra button near DSC button.
The wheels were perfect (probably recently refurbished).
The car had done 96k, not 91k as I was informed.
The rear floor was ok where the subframe mounts
It had staggered wheels
Sadly they had 4 different makes of tyres on them and believe it or not 2 of them were remoulds!!!!!!!!
I went for a spin and as soon as I set off the ABS light came on.
The brakes had no bite and were very noisy.
The car actually drove quite well and the auto box was faultless.
The temp gauge never got to half way
Slight vanos noise at 2500 rpm

Biggest worry of all though was that when looking from the front of the car the left suspension turret was nice and flat. The right side had a bulge on top just on the inboard side. This isn't normal is it? Is this a sign of the front suspension leg trying to burrow its way through?
This information may serve me well for the next one I look at...........please

All in all a nice looking car but not for me. I never even got as far as the service history as I had long ago lost interest.

Maybe next time eh?

You are buying a used car. Seems like it's a car with 91k and needs just minor things .

Really? You wouldn't worry about the ABS light and the suspension turret? These things and the 4 odd tyres with 2 of them remoulds set my alarm bells going.
That reminds me the alarm didn't work at all either :-)

Should I lower my sights? I'm willing to pay more if necessary for the right one :-)

Yea that sounds a little odd. The seller was not willing to fix abs light?

Sorry for the delay. He said he would have it looked at, which is fair enough.
To be honest after the 2 different mileage statements by him (the first for 81k and the second for 91k) and then finding that it was actually showing 96K and the nonsense about the spot lights and no HK sound, which I believe was standard in 03 coupes, I think I'd started to doubt his word :-)
