Thanks, in advance, to anyone who takes the time to read this and is able/chooses to answer my questions. I have been monitoring this thread since the beginning and am just about ready to buy one myself, but have a few lingering questions that hopefully some of you who have purchased, installed, and used this item may answer.
To clarify: I have an '05 325i sedan. I currently have the standard OEM BMW Business CD (with MP3 CD capability) head unit, standard (non-HK) speakers, and OEM Bluetooth. I have on order several replacement speakers from Bavarian Soundwerks to replace/enhance my blown-out OEM door subwoofers, however they have not arrived/been installed yet.
I am interested in installing the Enco B146 (WinCE) head unit. My understanding is that in this configuration it will connect to the rest of the car audio system through the 40-pin connector and will run through the OEM amplifier, keeping all other audio components the same (except the aforementioned BSW speaker replacements, in my case). Is this correct?
1. Assuming all things are equal (same media type--CD, MP3 CD, MP3 device, same piece of music, same OEM amplifier, and same OEM speakers, as in my case), how is the sound quality of the B146 compared to the OEM BMW Business CD head unit? Is it equivalent? Does the B146 channeling through the OEM amplifier supply sound to all 10 speakers? I thought I read somewhere that it has "4 channel" sound? Does that mean it only supplies sound to 4 speakers? I know many aftermarket head units have 4 RCA outputs (usually feeding an aftermarket amplifier), but, as mentioned before, the B146 connects through the 40-pin connector. Could someone explain this?
2. Does the Bluetooth function of the B146 allow access to the paired phone's onboard phonebook? Or must calls be placed by dialing numbers using the numeric keypad in the GUI of the B146? Or, alternatively, using the phonebook in the GUI of the phone itself?
3. If there is access to the paired phone's phonebook, can the steering wheel controls be used to A) select the Bluetooth function and access the phonebook; B) scroll through the phonebook using the arrows; C) place/end calls using the "talk" button? Essentially I am asking if the Bluetooth function is equivalent to the OEM Bluetooth function, including the use of steering wheel controls.
4. I have read that various users on this thread have purchased the B146 with the maps and paid ~$400 with shipping and transaction fees. Can someone please supply a working link to this? The szenco.com site does not currently have a purchase option and most of the ebay listings are $500 or more. I'm not an alibaba user so I can't see the price there (though I'm not averse to creating an account). I guess the ideal purchase scenario for me would be to buy it on ebay, pay using paypal, and secure this same ~$400 price. Can someone advise on how to proceed?
Sorry for the length or redundancy of this post. I wanted to be as specific and detailed as possible because sometimes confusion is generated through the use of shorthand writing or vocabulary that isn't universally understood. I hope I have been clear enough. Thanks again to anyone who can be of help. And thanks to all the intrepid e46fanatics who went ahead and bought these things sight unseen and so helpfully shared their experiences.

I'm unable to help you with your first question because my car does not have an mp3 unit and neither an aftermarket speakers, also since I don't have my unit yet, I cant help you with the Bluetooth function questions. However, I can help you with your last question. Since you live very close to me, you will end up paying same as me. depending if you decide to buy the same extra items they sell.
Enco-B146 - $320.00
SD card with North Amerian map - $ 10.00
Backup Camera for BMW E46 - $ 20.00
Shipping cost by DHL - $70.00
Total - $USD 420.00
You can remove whatever you don't need and just subtract from total price. I wouldn't recommend paying through Paypal because you will end up paying more. I believe up to $559.00 (Found this information in post #603 from this thread). Also I believe they will want 5% more because that is the Paypal fee (in any case, this is their paypal email firstname.lastname@example.org ) The only way to purchase an item is by emailing the sales people. I believe there is Charles, Amy and Jolly, there may be others.
You can pick either of them, for some people here, Jolly was able to ship the unit faster and in a shorter amount of time then Charles. But in the end is your choice of who you pick. I ended up picking Jolly.
Here are their contact information which you can email and ask any type of questions about this unit or the Android one.

So please avoid buying it from alibaba unless you want to sign up and become an user. Also, I will avoid ebay, but is my personal preference. Many people here bought it from them, so I decide to jump back in the lane too.
Let me know if I can assist you with any other question and good luck with your purchase.

I'm curious about the bluetooth and steering wheel control functions as well. I ordered my unit last week hopefully it comes here soon. I probably should have looked into it more but I assumed they work with the unit. At least I hope so... Hey did anyone get a tracking number for Canada by any chance?

Got mine today as well. Mine is the B046 (Android) unit. Probably won't be able to get it installed until the weekend, but will keep you posted on how I like it. Another interesting question I have is whether or not we (the forum members) can figure out a way to get a wifi patch for the Android version to get wifi working (as well as figure out which wifi adapter is compatible, if any, with the enco unit).
