DIY: stock sound system to HK

Hello guys, I am pretty new here and in fact this is my first post. Is it possible to change the stock sound system to the Harman/Kardon usually sold as an option? Is is a possible DIY? Can the dealer can install it even if the car is already out of the garage?

If you're going to pay labor charges to put in a new sound system you might as well put in an aftermarket one, because the OEM HK one is considered by many to be not worth it as a factory option for sound quality.

But if you REALLY want an OEM HK put in, I'm sure there are some ppl out there who would love to sell you theirs so that they can upgrade to a better one.

visor, what would recommend as a sound system upgrade? I already have the HK system but would like to get more 'umph' out of it.

Hello again and thank you for your answers. I consider myself as an "audiophile" and my hobby is to build high-quality loudspeakers and amplifiers so I need good sound. I would prefer the HK only because it fits perfectly in the car but I am sure there is better aftermarket sound system. Also, I have already the 6CD charger in the trunk (this is nice to have 6CD but this is bad to stop the car to add/remove CDs). I can do the installation myself.

Thanks for the link, I will read it carefully.

Asmodeus, je suis de Montréal aussi et je suis un bimmer depuis quelques jours seulement...
