Secondary Air Pump Question
So was driving earlier and as soon as I got to my work heard a vacuum sounding noise. Checked it and found out my secondary air pump was not shutting off. My good friend here in the boards said my SAP is busted.
Planning on buying a secondary air pump and was wondering if this part is interchangeable/compatible from other E46 models. Thanks in advanced! Sorry i'm a newbie and still trying to learn... |

what year is your car?
Your location says you're in CA and if you have a 2003+ 325i that was bought in cali then you have the SULEV M56 engine which emmission related components are warrantied for 15 year/150,000 miles. http://www.ge39.com/files/M56sulev.pdf

if you pump will not shut off, its obviously still running and working, and therefore doubtful it needs replaced. They aren't cheap. Search for some of the threads I've made on the subject, I've dealt with my SAP a few times. Test it further by when its running, disconnect the larger hose going to the valve on the head and feel for the air coming out.
Check the relay behind the glove box first - salmon colored, a $15 part. It may be stuck on leaving the SAP running.

If it's not a relay and you need a sap. (even though you don't) I'd be more than happy to sell the pos. That I replaced for about 12 bucks. sap delete ftw

Thanks for the response. I did check and relay and the SAP did turn off. Ordered the relay thought its best to change it. One question I have now is how do I reset the check engine light. Same as when I reset on oil change? Thanks in advanced guys...
