Shifter issue. Need help

I first started noticing looseness in the shifter while in gear a couple months ago, but I didn't think anything of it. My shifting feels sloppy now and it's only getting worse; I will go into first gear and still be able to shake it side to side effortlessly. My shifter is cented in nuetral perfectly with the exception of when i come out of fifth. When I shift my car out of fifth and into nuetral it won't sit centered. It will stay off center for a while. It won't matter if I put my car in first or reverse when I move back to nuetral, it will sit off center to the right. Then randomly (10 min later or so) I will grab my shift knob and try to move it into reverse (usually backing out of a parking spot), and as I move the knob the shifter almost gives way and just slips back to the perfectly centered nuetral position.
I know something needs to be replaced just not sure what. I am thinking a bushing or something and probably the plastic piece at the base of the shifter. Any thoughts? I wish I had more to give than a crude description but hopefully this sounds like a famliliar issue to someone.

I would take it out and have a look see, and is it just the shifter that's loose or does the clutch pedal feel like it has no spring to it??

Mine does the same thing. After the car warms up completely (cabin, too), the shifter will pop back into the central neutral position. After feeling my friend's ZHP's shifter and how tight it is (take that out of context), I'm determined to replace the springs, bushings, or whatever else it needs.

There have been several threads about this, but all I've found for an answer was to replace the internal components of the shifter, meaning you have to disassemble the transmission or something.
