Bimmer Ferret was too slow on getting on 2012 news...

So for those waiting on the US GP, you can now get on the preseason waiting list for "select" seating on the grid or one of 2 other prime seating. For your $100 deposit, you get the honor of buying tickets that range from $1000 - $5000 depending on how good they are. No word on general admissions prices.

It also says you can go to COTA and register your e-mail for info on general admission. I did it. Why not. There is also recent photos of the progress of the track. I said it before - I hope it gets done by Nov but I don't think there is any way in hell they are going to make this an operational track by then. Korea just barely made the F1 schedule, and they were way ahead of COTA this close to race weekend.

edit: I talked with my grandmother earlier tonight, she lives just outside of Austin, and she said the local news has been giving the track a lot of coverage recently and they're on schedule to open on the 16th.

I think that Raikonnen coming back into F1 is a big mistake. Yes he's a former champion, but only because Lewis & Alonso were cutting each others throats that year at McClaren. And let's face it, he's going to a pretty average team in Lotus...

^ Goughie has the right idea. Is Iceman fast? Ya. Faster than average. Is he a threat to top teams? No.

Toro Rosso is the most interesting team to look at this year. IMO.

I think that Kimi showed his worth (or lack of it) when he did nada in rallying. I seem to recall he was on mega money at Ferrari, too. He's never been that good of a driver imho. Lewis, Alonso and Vettel all faster than him for sure, Button probably too, now.

Who's in the TR seats Sim? I know they dropped Buemi and Jamie, but missed out on the replacements. Not sure I share your optimism for TR, either...

Daniel Ricciardo and French guy Jean-Eric Vergne are the new TR drivers. Ricciardo drove for HRT last year, and Vergne is a former Brit F3 driver.

Quickest kids out there, really. RB snaps them up quick.

And while I agree that rally speed cannot be compared to F1 speed (Kimi proved this), Kimi has always been a unique entity in F1. He came from nowhere. He will regain what he had in F1, and perhaps bring something from his rally experience with him. No guarantees of course, but excited to see what happens.

Most concentrated F1 field in a while, I am excite.

wasn't force india ahead of them in points? de resta has some skill and FI imo has the skill to try to challenge the big teams. all they need is to develop a decent chassis in the off season

as long as it's webber... i really don't want to see vettel dominate for the third straight season. maybe McLaren can come up with something to give them the edge over RBR and Ferrari.

I can't wait to drive the NJ road course...to have an F1 track 20 mins. away, open to the public...just amazing for me.

I wonder how many of the Sultans' yachts will be docked along the river...they must be able to make a trans-Atlantic cruise, right?

Anyway, I won't be racing on it, but I'm just excited to be able to drive on it!

Ah, that Ricciardo kid who drove for HRT last season is supposed to be pretty quick. Never heard of Vergne, however.

Not sure I agree with the most concentrated F1 field bit, mind. The novelty of the new tyre supplier will have gone, not too many moves in the teams (and none in the top teams) means I think it'll be the same again as last year, just a little less exciting...
