Upgrade or Not? ESS VT2-500 to a VT@-550?

I have the ESS VT2-500 on my 2003 M3 Vert, and I love it! Made 433rwhp whit 304 tq, and that was SAE Corrected in Hot Hawaii weather. I do have SS V2 Step headers, Rogue Mid and X-Pipe and el diablo exhaust, plus ESS ECU and SMG Tunes. Love it! Car is very fast.

My favorite thing is when a guy in a 911 Carrera S tries to race, and he looks confused when he finally catches up and the girl in his car is smiling at me, not him.

But of course the addiction is in, and my birthday is coming up. So, I'm thinking about upgrading to the VT2-550.

Pro's - More HP. I hope to make at least 480 at the wheels. A more raw, powerful boost. More HP. Torque.

Cons -
- Another $2500-2700 for parts and labor.
- Running 9psi instead of 7.
- The VT2-550 requires 93octane. Hawaii only has 92 at the pump, except 1 station about 3 miles from my house that carries 100 octane race gas. If I mix 2 gallons of 100 in every tank, I will effectively stay higher than 93. So this means an extra $10.00 per tank. Also, I would buy a 14 gallon gas caddy on wheels and keep it at my house with 100 octane in it so I don't have to go that station all the time.

Do it. I felt more tq from 500->550 than n/a->500. Traction losses at 3rd on good tarmac and 75% Michelin PS2 is very addictive. On the vid the boost gauge only shows 8psi but after zip-tied all the T-connections in the vaccum lines i can see now 10psi. ESS said that it can even go up to 10.5psi.

You make a most excellent point. I'm actually making 304rwtq right now with my VT2-500, so I wonder if I can get 350 with the 550
????

thinking about doing the same with my little z4m..... but cant help thinking it may just be too much on such a short wheel base car.... 500 feels pretty nuts as it is......

exchange rate is making this even more appealing......

Beedub, wait for Trevors car.. see how that thing does with 700hp or so at the crank. If he says its manageable, I'm sure you'd be fine.

good shout!!

im already struggling with traction .... sometimes less is more imo..... The car is a scream with 500hp.... Then again i cant lie, i am tempted........ the move up to 550 needs minor upgrades really.......
