Be HONEST thread. Do you regret buying a HARDTOP for your ride?....
As title thread states,....well, maybe "regret" is too harsh a word.
But, be HONEST. Did you buy an E46 E46 convertible HARDTOP only to use it for a couple of seasons,...then it just ended up in the rafters or in the garage corner, 'cause you've been too butt to put it on? Is it just sitting there, getting scratched or bumped by the lawnmower, etc, & wish you didn't purchase it & would rather have the $1000-2500 that you spent on it ?? I can't see having it reeally increases the value of your car, other than it's neat to have this option. I admit, I'd like to have one, for the sake of having it as an option...but I kinda know not to get one, 'cause, for example, if I ever bought the WINDSCREEN, again for example, I'd be too butt to put it in all the time. So, I think this would be the case with a HARDTOP, even though it'd be only twice a year for addition/removal, in spring & fall.....I admit...LAZINESS..... HONESTY? OPINIONS?.....discuss?.... |

I don't regret buying mine at all, I love always having the option of putting it on. I actually had some extra cash and bought it as an investment since i figured I could always sell it for the same price I bought it since it's value never seems to go down. As for the laziness, it takes me and anyone else less than 5 min to put it on.

My vert is a long time investment. She is a garage queen, since I have owned her and does not go out in the rain or snow.
I did come across a matching hardtop for $1200 and it was a no-brainer, the top is a beautifully made accessory. I also have a set of style 73 winter rims and snows for those nice dry winter days when the roads are dry and clear.

Hardtop is a must in Boston, the larger rear window is a huge plus!

thx 4 the posts....I was gonna poo-poo the idea of finding one,...still won't aggressively look for one, ....but if one shows up for me in my area (w/in 3hrs)...I'll do it if the price, but more important, if the condition is right....

The hardtop is not only functional in cold climates....it has the added benefit of changing the feel/look of the entire car. I think it is one of the best additions I purchased for my vert.

Not an M3 Vert? Just curious, why do you not like Verts now? I though you were Mr. Vert!
![]() Oh, and to stay somewhat on topic, I don't have a hardtop, but always thought having one would be a "nice to have", but it's too much money for that for me. If I lived in cold climates, I'd definitely have one. A neighbor uses theirs in the winter here, but it's usually only 50 degrees or so, so I'm not exactly sure why.

It's like having 2 cars but one parking space. Rains alot in Oregon; for couple of months of great summer weather, it's great having the top down. For the rest of wet months, it's a coupe. Got my top with a real neat garage mount hoist so it's out of the way. With all the newer hardtop convertibles, you lose the little trunk space that we have.

I had one for a few years but I only used it a handful of times. I dont pull my car out during the winter so its pretty pointless. Plus I didnt like the idea of leaving my softtop down for that entire time.

Our vert is driven year round, so the hardtop is the absolute best. It takes almost no time at all to install/remove and as mentioned, completely changes the feel of the car. The availability of a hardtop for the E46 convertible is one of the reasons we chose it over the A4, CLK, and 650i.

The extra 350lbs and shiittier chassis alone drive my completely crazy. After all the mods I've done, I'm still only able to get about a car length ahead of a ZHP with an exhaust and light wheels. Kinda frustrating.
