Subwoofer Installation
Hi Guys,
I have an aftermarket Sub & Amp. I would like to install it in my 2002 325i. I'm having trouble knowing what to connect where. I have a 4 line out converter. Where does this connect? There is no OEM Amplifier present it looks like it has been removed in the past by a previous owner. There is a blue wire and a red wire coming from the boot and has a small little connection on the end that says AMP. Are one of these wires the remote? Thanks! Daniel |

the only factory-run remote turn on wire to the trunk from the stock head unit is a small white wire, and none of the stock wiring for the amplifier is labeled. you're in Australia, so it may be that the speakers are powered from an internal amplifier in the stock head unit, similar to many European e46s.
is there nothing behind the driver's side trunk carpeting? how are the current speakers powered? do you have the stock head unit? some pictures of what you're working with would be good...

here you go... just installed my system last weekend and posted everything I did
![]() http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpos...7&postcount=39 post up any questions and I'll try to answer them for ya. I am trying to find an option for an AUX input without having to buy a 03+ headunit. I would think I could tap into the disc player wires, but not sure... I am doing some research! |

the amps (if in the trunk) are always on the left side. have you dug around over there?
from what i've read, the little wire that isn't connected to anything has something to do with shipping the cars overseas, it has nothing to do with audio components. you might want to take a look at this thread for a great overview of how to replace all the speakers (though i realize that isn't what you're intending to do).

Are you sure the amp is on the left? Would that be typical for left hand drive cars? Mine is right and the battery is on the same side as the driver..

the amps are always on the left. however most Aus spec cars do not have an external amp. easiest thing to do is tap your 4 line out converter into your two rear speakers, and use the line out from that to feed into your subwoofer's amplifier.

Yeah that's what I was planning on doing. The only query I had was where to connect the remote...

*if* your amp is on the left side of the car unclip the wiring adapter that goes in it and use these wires:
Pin # 1 / Woofer Rear Left (-)Brown Pin # 2 / Woofer Rear Left (+)Yellow Pin # 24 / Woofer Rear Right (-)Brown Pin # 25 / Woofer Rear Right (+)Blue ****DO NOT use the rear decklid 6x9's (i think that's what size they are). the ones above are pre-amp'd, they will be 10x more powerful than the others wires. my installation: |

So even though my battery, and all the wires are situated on the right hand side of the boot, the remote wire is on the left?

Forget what I said. I've found the speaker cables. But that's the least of my worries.. Cannot for the life of me get a green light on my amp. I have connected the + and Ground but it must be the wrond white wire that I am connecting to. There are 2 on the left hand side of the trunk and neither give a signal...?

its there dude........ remember to have your head unit turned on when checking for power from the white wire.
note that this wire runs to the antenna amplifier which is located behind the passenger c pillar cover........ inside the car above the back seat... has the light in it !! ( can also tap into it up there and run a wire down from there if you like )
