In case you missed it. It has been reenacted with Legos.

I like how they have "unreleased audio" two days after the jump.

But seriously, can anyone explain this to me? I understand that this is pretty cool. Dude jumps out of capsule however many miles up. But is it cool for anything other than its own sake? Is there valuable applicable knowledge being gained from this? Or is it just another feather that Red Bull gets to stick in its cap? What's the real impact here?

Space safety was cited as one benefit. Possible egress for astronaunts reentry to Earth?

It's mildy funny. They just overdub audio of him being scared and screaming.

It's neat, but you're not missing a whole lot.

Sums it up. It is exactly what I figured it would be, however made me laugh.

The youtube stream of the jump ended up using one quarter of the world's bandwidth.

amazing, simply amazing. Watching that video a couple times over, either his heart stopped a couple time's and he briefly went unconscious or simply his heart monitor sensor malfunctioned but his heart rate went to 0 a few times.

Earlier this year I made a pilgrimage to the USAF museum where all of Kittinger's kit is on display... That dude had some balls. Over 50 years ago, no computer models, no idea what would happen, and he jumped from 102k feet. On the way up he discovered a hole in his suit but didn't say anything because he didn't want the jump canceled, and by the time he landed his hand was twice its normal size.

Not trying to detract from Baumgartner's achievement, but it was a cool piece of history to see.

Something is wrong with the heart monitor. It goes to 0 once he's under canopy too and he was fully concious.
